Unpopular Opinion Why Frozen Bugs Me
Unpopular Opinion Why Frozen Bugs Me
Its time I talk about something that has been grinding my gears for a few months now. And its going to be unpopular. And I dont care.
Have you heard about that new Disney movie... Frozen? If not, can I come live where you live? Because its obviously under a rock or in a cave somewhere. Regardless, its where I want to be. I am so sick and tired of all the posts about Frozen on my Facebook feed.

PEOPLE GOING THROUGH HARD TIMES ARE QUOTING OLAF. HES A SNOWMAN.
I cant. I just cant.
Look. I love Disney. I grew up with Disney. I love the Princesses. I love their stories. I love their characters. Truly. I dont think Disney is evil or that there are subconscious anti-girl themes in their movies. I actually like the movie Frozen. I wasnt like blown away by any of it, but I enjoyed it.
Its really some of the fans that have really ruined it for me.
Here is why:
1. Let It Go... No Really. Let the song go.
Its catchy. I sing it. I liked it. Itll get stuck in my head. There are covers upon covers of it. There are spoofs about it. Its everywhere. Its in every retail store where there is a kid section. Its a catchy song, but its not the best song ever. Im just over it. Its so overplayed, over-hyped, and now every time I hear it I want to take an ice pick to the eye.

2. Elsa, Elsa, Elsa!
Elsa is a crappy sister. Through and through. She couldnt even talk to her sister through the door after being locked up by her parents (more on that later). Im sorry, but its true. Elsa was a horrible sister. To the point that Anna was so desperate for connection that she fell for the first guy she ever met and he turned out to be a jerk. But Elsa didnt have enough of a relationship with Anna to help her see it. Lets not forget that Elsa freaking ran away to wallow in her ice castle leaving her kingdom and her SISTER to not only freeze to death but to starve, since there was no way to get food or supplies into the kingdom.
In spite of ALL OF THIS every little girl is wearing Elsa wigs and Elsa dresses and singing Elsas song. Everyone wants an Elsa impersonator to show up at their Elsa birthday party.

3. Poor Anna.
No brainer here. Anna is the main character of the movie and yet no one cares about her. No one cares that she never once gave up on connecting with her jerk-tastic sister. No one cares that she traveled in the freezing cold to find her sister despite being rejected multiple times. No one cares that she ALMOST DIED trying to prove to her sister that she loved her and would be there for her despite the fact that shes different and it almost killed her. Twice. Not only that, but she cared enough about the kingdom to brave the icy conditions in hopes to thaw out the land.
Oh, I almost forgot, she sacrificed herself for the lives of others. NBD.

4. People care more about the snowman, Olaf, than about the heroine in the movie.
Im not even going to get started on the fact that if someone is NOT talking about Elsa, they are talking about Olaf. Still no Anna. Say whaaaaat? I mean he was cute and funny but should his quotes be used by grown women going through strife in their lives? Eh. To each her own.

5. Elsas parents were horrible people.
This might be sad cause, you know, they died and all but Elsas parents were awful. Not only did they mess with their daughters memory but they locked their other daughter in a room. That is not good parenting. There are thousands of other ways to deal with this situation and yet they chose to give both their daughters MAJOR issues later in life. (Elsa not being able to accept who she is as a person, Anna throwing herself at the first dude that crossed her path.)

Yes, Im aware that it all ended happily and Elsa learned to accept herself and the kingdom was saved. I just wish parents would focus more on the actual messages in the movie. Accepting yourself and those who are different from you, fight for your family, fight for the lives of others, be brave and above all else, dont lock your daughter in a room.

UPDATE: My amazing husband just sent me this and I adore it. Thanks babe.

This information about hair has been hidden from the public since the Viet Nam War.
Our culture leads people to believe that hair style is a matter of personal preference, that hair style is a matter of fashion and/or convenience, and that how people wear their hair is simply a cosmetic issue. Back in the Viet Nam war however, an entirely different picture emerged, one that has been carefully covered up and hidden from public view.
In the early nineties, Sally [name changed to protect privacy] was married to a licensed psychologist who worked at a VA Medical hospital. He worked with combat veterans with PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder. Most of them had served in Viet Nam.
Sally said, I remember clearly an evening when my husband came back to our apartment on Doctors Circle carrying a thick official looking folder in his hands. Inside were hundreds of pages of certain studies commissioned by the government. He was in shock from the contents. What he read in those documents completely changed his life. From that moment on my conservative middle of the road husband grew his hair and beard and never cut them again. What is more, the VA Medical center let him do it, and other very conservative men in the staff followed his example. As I read the documents, I learned why.
WT_Responsive
It seems that during the Viet Nam War special forces in the war department had sent undercover experts to comb American Indian Reservations looking for talented scouts, for tough young men trained to move stealthily through rough terrain. They were especially looking for men with outstanding, almost supernatural, tracking abilities. Before being approached, these carefully selected men were extensively documented as experts in tracking and survival.
With the usual enticements, the well proven smooth phrases used to enroll new recruits, some of these Indian trackers were then enlisted. Once enlisted, an amazing thing happened. Whatever talents and skills they had possessed on the reservation seemed to mysteriously disappear, as recruit after recruit failed to perform as expected in the field.
Serious casualities and failures of performance led the government to contract expensive testing of these recruits, and this is what was found.
When questioned about their failure to perform as expected, the older recruits replied consistently that when they received their required military haircuts, they could no longer sense the enemy, they could no longer access a sixth sense , their intuition no longer was reliable, they couldnt read subtle signs as well or access subtle extrasensory information.
So the testing institute recruited more Indian trackers, let them keep their long hair, and tested them in multiple areas. Then they would pair two men together who had received the same scores on all the tests. They would let one man in the pair keep his hair long, and gave the other man a military haircut. Then the two men retook the tests.
Time after time the man with long hair kept making high scores. Time after time, the man with the short hair failed the tests in which he had previously scored high scores.
Here is a typical test:
The recruit is sleeping out in the woods. An armed enemy approaches the sleeping man. The long haired man is awakened out of his sleep by a strong sense of danger and gets away long before the enemy is close, long before any sounds from the approaching enemy are audible.
In another version of this test the long haired man senses an approach and somehow intuits that the enemy will perform a physical attack. He follows his sixth sense and stays still, pretending to be sleeping, but quickly grabs the attacker and kills him as the attacker reaches down to strangle him.
This same man, after having passed these and other tests, then received a military haircut and consistently failed these tests, and many other tests that he had previously passed.
So, the document recommended that all Indian trackers be exempt from military haircuts. In fact, it required that trackers keep their hair long.
The mammalian body has evolved over millions of years. Survival skills of human and animal at times seem almost supernatural. Science is constantly coming up with more discoveries about the amazing abilities of man and animal to survive. Each part of the body has highly sensitive work to perform for the survival and well being of the body as a whole. The body has a reason for every part of itself.
Hair is an extension of the nervous system, it can be correctly seen as exteriorized nerves, a type of highly-evolved feelers or antennae that transmit vast amounts of important information to the brain stem, the limbic system, and the neocortex.
Not only does hair in people, including facial hair in men, provide an information highway reaching the brain, hair also emits energy, the electromagnetic energy emitted by the brain into the outer environment. This has been seen in Kirlian photography when a person is photographed with long hair and then rephotographed after the hair is cut.
When hair is cut, receiving and sending transmissions to and from the environment are greatly hampered. This results in numbing-out.
Cutting of hair is a contributing factor to unawareness of environmental distress in local ecosystems. It is also a contributing factor to insensitivity in relationships of all kinds. It contributes to sexual frustration.
Conclusion
In searching for solutions for the distress in our world, it may be time for us to consider that many of our most basic assumptions about reality are in error. It may be that a major part of the solution is looking at us in the face each morning when we see ourselves in the mirror.
The story of Sampson and Delilah in the Bible has a lot of encoded truth to tell us. When Delilah cut Sampsons hair, the once undefeatable Sampson was defeated.

Why you should not wrap your food in Aluminum Foil Before Cooking it
Why you should not wrap your food in Aluminum Foil Before Cooking it
Why You Shouldnt Wrap Your Food In Aluminum Foil Before Cooking It
Food Science, Food Toxins, Future of Food0
If youre baking fish, roasting vegetables or preparing a piece of meat for dinner tonight, chances are that youll wrap your food in aluminium foil. What you may not realize is that some of the foil will leach into your meal and this could be bad for your health.
Research that I conducted with a group of colleagues has explored the use of aluminium for cooking and preparing food. Aluminium doesnt just appear in foil: it is the most popular cookware material used by people in developing countries. Pots and pans are lined with it and it is found in some kitchen utensils like large serving spoons. Copper used to fulfil this role, but over time its been replaced by aluminium because it is cheaper to mass produce and easier to clean.
But while cooking your food in aluminium pots or pans isnt a bad thing, placing it in foil and putting it in the oven is problematic. This is especially true with acidic or spicy food thats prepared at high temperatures.
Aluminium and health
Human bodies can excrete small amounts of aluminium very efficiently. This means that minimal exposure to aluminium is not a problem: the World Health Organisation has established a safe daily intake of 40mg per kilogram of body weight per day. So for a person who weighs 60kg the allowable intake would be 2400 mg.
But most people are exposed to and ingest far more than this suggested safe daily intake. Aluminium is present in corn, yellow cheese, salt, herbs, spices and tea. Its used in cooking utensils, as described above, as well as in pharmacological agents like antacids and antiperspirants. Aluminium sulfate, which is derived from aluminium, is used as a coagulant during the purification process of drinking water.
Scientists are exploring whether over-exposure to aluminium may be posing threats to human health. For instance, high concentrations of aluminium have been detected in the brain tissue of patients with Alzheimers disease. Scientists have examined the community of old people with Alzheimers and concluded that it is a modern disease thats developed from altered living conditions associated with societys industrialisation. These conditions may include high levels of aluminium in daily life.
Aluminium poses other health risks, too. Studies have suggested that high aluminium intake may be harmful to some patients with bone diseases or renal impairment. It also reduces the growth rate of human brain cells.
Avoid foil when cooking
Given all of these proven risks, its important to determine the aluminium concentration when cooking. Pots and other cookware tend to be oxidised, providing an inert layer that prevents the aluminium from leaching into food. The problem is that when you scrub your pots after cooking, that layer is worn away and the aluminium can seep into your food. This is easily avoided: when you get new aluminium pots, boil water in them several times until the base becomes matt. This creates a natural oxidation that prevents leaching. They may look nicer when theyre scrubbed and shiny, but a matt base is better for your food and your health.
But cooking your food in foil is a different story. Aluminium foil is disposable and you will not be able to create that inert layer prior to using it. My research found that the migration of aluminium into food during the cooking process of food wrapped in aluminium foil is above the permissible limit set by the World Health Organisation.

Ghada Bassioni explains the research she and her colleagues conducted.
Aluminium is significantly more likely to leach into food, and at higher levels, in acidic and liquid food solutions like lemon and tomato juice than in those containing alcohol or salt. Leaching levels climb even more when spice is added to food thats cooked in aluminium foil. Anything acidic sparks a particularly aggressive process that dissolves layers of aluminium into food.
This research suggests that aluminium foil should not be used for cooking. Instead, wed recommend using glassware or porcelain when preparing baked dishes. Its safe to wrap cold food in foil, though not for long stretches of time because food has a shelf life and because aluminium in the foil will begin to leach into the food depending on ingredients like spices.

One in 3 reading this likely has a serious overload of a mineral that may be more dangerous to your health than lack of vitamin D. That mineral is iron.
Making matters worse, few physicians fully appreciate the danger of excess iron, which Gerry Koenig, former chairman of the Iron Disorders Institute (IDI) and the Hemochromatosis Foundation, discusses in this interview. Koenigs personal story is a powerful illustration of what can happen to someone with excess iron.
Approaching his 50th birthday, hed lost a lot of weight, worked out, and felt healthy. By age 55, he was in good shape, but he did drink more than recommended. Eventually, during a physical exam, he found out his liver enzymes were high.
The doctor recommended I stop drinking, Koenig says. I stopped drinking. But I got sick again ... Turned out I had hemolytic anemia. My red blood cells were breaking down.
I didnt know what that meant, nor, apparently, did my doctor. They never tested my iron ... Finally I had an episode where I went to the hospital. I had encephalopathy, a pretty serious condition ... They said I would need a new liver.
I didnt get an iron test until the eve of my liver transplant in 2005 ... By chance I ran across a Scientific American article. It described something called hemochromatosis, which I didnt know anything about. I decided I would have the test.
As it turns out, I have a single gene for one of the variants for hemochromatosis C282Y. Because of that, I decided to look into it more and started researching it ... Ive been doing that for the last 11 years.
Are You at High Risk for Iron Overload?
Most all adult men and non-menstruating women have damaging levels of iron. However, there is a genetic disorder called hemochromatosis which causes your body to accumulate excessive and dangerously damaging levels of iron.
If left untreated, it can damage your organs and contribute to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases and many other disorders.
The good news is iron overload is easy and inexpensive to treat. By monitoring your serum ferritin and/or gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) levels, avoiding iron supplements and donating blood on a regular basis, you can avoid serious health problems.
Sadly, many doctors are severely underinformed about iron overload. Hence the problem tends to go undetected.
How High Is Too High?
The serum ferritin test measures your stored iron. I strongly recommend all adults to get your iron tested (serum ferritin test) on an annual basis. I believe iron overload is every bit as dangerous to your health as vitamin D deficiency.
Just dont make the mistake of going by whats considered normal.1 In some labs, a level of 395 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) falls within the normal range, which is FAR too high for optimal health. In reality, youre virtually guaranteed to develop disease at that level.
Ideally, your serum ferritin should be somewhere between 20 and 80 ng/ml, certainly no higher than that. As a general rule, somewhere between 40 and 60 ng/ml is the sweet spot for adult men and non-menstruating women.
Unfortunately, few besides children, premenopausal women who lose blood through monthly menstruation, and those with acute blood loss like a bleeding ulcer, have these ideal levels.
Even some premenopausal women (if theyre not under control) will go up to 60 or 70, which is dangerous if they get pregnant. Theres a greater chance of poor outcomes in the pregnancy.
The U.S. is 35th in the world in infant survival. Its a terrible situation when you look at the numbers. Theres no reason for this. Theres no reason for us to have a population thats so unhealthy given the access to medical care that we have, Koenig says.
Again, if your iron level is high, the solution is to simply donate your blood. If youre an adult male, youll want to donate blood two to three times a year once your levels are normal. If ferritin levels are over 200 units per liter (U/L), a more aggressive phlebotomy schedule is recommended.
Although your local blood bank may not realize this, recent U.S. legislation allows all blood banks to perform therapeutic phlebotomy for hemochromatosis or iron overload. All you need is a doctors order.
Recommended Lab Tests
While a full iron panel that checks serum iron, iron-binding capacity and ferritin can be helpful, you really only need the serum ferritin test. Its fairly inexpensive typically less than $40.
Your doctor can write you a prescription for it, or you can order it from Koenigs website, HealtheIron.com. They recently also added a (GGT) test.
GGT measures liver enzymes, which can tell you if you have liver damage. It can also be used as a screening marker for excess iron. The free iron measured by GGT is also great indicator of sudden cardiac death.
If you only took that marker (GGT), you have an indication of iron thats not well-bound. When you have iron in the serum, its generally bound by transferrin, which carries two iron atoms through the serum.
Ferritin can hold up to 4,000 iron molecules and put those inside the cells. If those measures are high, theyre risky, because you dont know how well your body is going to hold on to that iron when the cells fall apart over time (lysis or catabolism).
Our diet is the biggest factor today thats really causing this problem. Its not so much that were eating too much iron; its that the iron we have in our body effectively can harm us. Thats where the GGT comes in. Its a surrogate measure of free iron.
For women, a healthy GGT level is around 9 U/L, whereas the high end of normal GGT lab ranges are generally 40 to 45 U/L for women. For men, Koenig recommends a level of 16 U/L (normal lab ranges for men is 65 to 70 U/L).2
Women with GGT above 30 U/L have higher risk of cancers breast cancer, all kinds of cancers and they will have high risk of autoimmune disease, Koenig warns.
What Causes Excess Iron Buildup?
Besides having one or both genes for hemochromatosis, you may also end up with high iron levels for the simple fact that most people dont excrete iron very well. So whats the biology behind iron loading?
Ninety percent of the energy your body creates is by burning carbs or fat with oxygen in your mitochondria to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP). You need oxygen to burn the fuel because it goes through the Krebs cycle. Ninety-five percent of the time, oxygen is converted to water.
But anywhere from 0.5 to 5 percent of the time, youre going to develop whats called a reactive oxygen species (ROS). The first one is superoxide dismutase (SOD), which then transforms to the next ROS, which is hydrogen peroxide.
Heres the key: when you have excess iron in your blood, the chemical reaction (Fentons reaction) doesnt produce water. Instead, the excessive iron catalyzes the formation of hydroxyl free radicals, which are the most potent and destructive free radicals known to man. They will decimate your mitochondrial DNA, mitochondrial electron transport proteins and cellular membranes.
This is how iron overload accelerates every major disease we know of. Thats how it causes the pathologies, especially in liver and cardiovascular disease. Believe me, very few health care professionals understand the molecular biology of this reaction, which is why virtually no one is sounding the alarm about excessive iron levels. This is why you need to share this article with your friends and family as you can literally save many of their lives.
It is absolutely vital to confirm that you have safe iron levels, and once they are in a safe range, continue to monitor them so they dont rise. Remember, you dont have to have hemochromatosis to be affected. According to Koenig, iron levels have literally DOUBLED in the general population over the past four decades.
When the first National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES I,3 1971 to 1974) was done, and NHANES II4 (1976 to 1980), they measured ferritin. The male ferritin was under 100 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) in the U.S. Now the median is close to 200 ng/ml. In minorities, its a lot higher ...
If you look at the scales of premature death and infant mortality in African-Americans versus whites, that big difference can be accounted for by this one element. Hispanic-Americans live longer than white Americans. They also handle the iron a little bit better, Koenig says.
Beware of High Iron, High-Carb Diet Combination
If you eat a lot of net carbs (total carbs minus fiber), the situation is exacerbated. Unfortunately, most reading this are burning carbs as their primary fuel, which adds another 30 to 40 percent more ROS on top of the hydroxyl free radicals generated by the presence of high iron.
What people generally have when they eat better, in terms of slowing those little fires down before they become a raging fire, are antioxidants, Koenig says. The most important one is glutathione. If you dont have good cellular health, including glutathione, those fires (inflammation) will just self-ignite and youll have a chain reaction of effects that go on until youre really sick.
That happened to me. I got peripheral neuropathy. They try to say its a diabetic problem, and I never had diabetes. Both of my legs were on fire. The pain was unbelievable. You wind up going to a specialist for that, a neurologist. But when the membranes on your neurological system essentially flare up and melt, the pain is unbearable. But nobody connected that to the iron.
Hemochromatosis, Another Iron-Damaging Disease
About 1 in 3.5 or an estimated 100 million people in the U.S. have the single gene for hemochromatosis. But not all of them get sick with an iron overload disorder. If you have both genes for hemochromatosis, then your risk of developing iron overload and associated health problems rises significantly.
Its unclear how many might have the double gene, but each year there are roughly 36,000 deaths from liver disease and about 6,000 liver transplants. Most of all these people are affected by excess iron. The primary cause for liver transplantation and liver death is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Excess dietary fructose is likely a primary contributor to NAFLD these days (especially in children and young adults), but high iron is another major culprit.
Certainly, if you combine a high-sugar diet with excess iron, youre asking for trouble. That will create a powerfully poisonous, deadly synergy that will accelerate just about any pathology. If youve read this far, you probably know more about this problem than your physician. High iron simply isnt brought to their attention in the medical literature. The reason I know about it is because Ive been personally affected.
I have a form of hemolytic anemia (similar to sickle cell anemia). As a result of that, my red blood cells die faster than normal, and Im prone to excess iron.
Key Treatment Points
To reiterate, the three keys to control this situation are:
- Lower your net carb intake and increase your consumption of healthy fats, including animal-based omega-3, to switch over to fat-burning mode and protect your mitochondria. This will help to radically reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and secondary free radical production.
- Regularly screen for iron overload with a serum ferritin or GGT level to confirm that you dont have excess iron, and if you do, donate blood to lower your levels.
- If you are an adult male or non-menstruating woman, make sure that you donate your blood at least twice a year.
Relying on antioxidants to indiscriminately suppress ROS can backfire, as ROS also act as important signaling molecules. Theyre not all bad. They cause harm only when produced in excess. Youre better off lowering the production of them rather than squelching them after theyre produced.
So optimize your ROS levels biologically rather than relying on vitamins and supplements. Eating healthy fats can make a bigger difference than you might think, especially if you have high iron. Koenig explains:
There was a very interesting group of studies on captive U.S. Navy dolphins. The dolphins had metabolic syndrome. Very, very high ferritin (serum iron). They were unhealthy. Metabolic syndrome in any population is a sign of potential risk of going from diabetes to heart disease. They cured it by providing them good fish to have plenty of fats, where they had been getting fish with poor fats ...
If anybody remembers the film Lorenzos Oil, thats where children have brain damage as a result of having this metabolism that doesnt create a good mixture of fatty acids in the cell linings. If the cell linings are damaged, particularly if it happens in the brain ... youre going to get hurt
... If you have leakage of iron from subcells, end cells, and red blood cells (hemolysis) ... it will shoot the ferritin level up high as an indication of risk. Thats when action should be taken. But its hard to find specialists. We need a couple of thousand general practitioners who know about this.
Be Mindful of Food Combos That Promote Iron Retention
Here are a few other tips and suggestions regarding diet. Eating vitamin C-rich food with a meal that has iron will increase iron absorption. If youre anemic, this might be a good thing, but if you struggle with high iron, avoid combining foods high in vitamin C and iron. On the other hand, calcium will bind to iron, limiting absorption.
It impairs iron, so to speak, so if your iron is high, consider eating iron-rich foods with foods high in calcium. Interestingly, curcumin (derived from turmeric) acts as a potent chelator of iron and can be a useful supplement if your iron is elevated.
For most people that works well. Your body is designed to not over-absorb non-heme iron, which is elemental iron. Thats the iron inside vegetables and fruits. If you do something to enhance that absorption, the body will take it in.
The iron from meats you cant control very well. Were the only country in the world, together with Canada, to put 44 parts per million of elemental iron in our grains and flours. The other one is the U.K. They put 16.5 parts per million. Thats a lot of iron, and [many] dont need it, Koenig says.
More Information
To learn more, I recommend visiting HealtheIron.com, where you can also order your serum ferritin and GGT tests. If either of those is elevated, you need to take action. The treatment couldnt be simpler. Unless youre a menstruating woman, simply donate blood two to three times a year.
If you cannot donate blood due to restrictions for hemochromatosis, get your doctor to write you a prescription for therapeutic phlebotomy. Every blood bank can do that for you, and many will do it free of charge, so shop around. Otherwise, a typical charge ranges from $30 to $90, which is still fairly inexpensive considering the health benefits.
Theres also a really informative book called Dumping Iron: How to Ditch This Secret Killer and Reclaim Your Health, which is a well-written and easy to understand resource. Remember, high iron may not only be as common, or more, than low iron, its also more dangerous, and may actually be a factor in a significant number of diabetes, heart disease and cancer cases.
Unfortunately, nearly every physician is still clueless about this, and so you need to be your own advocate if you suspect (or know) your iron is too high.
I believe correcting elevated iron levels may be just as important, if not more so, than optimizing your vitamin D. If you have high iron, you definitely have the pedal to the metal when it comes to speeding up disease and aging. Koenig is a perfect example. He ended up needing a liver transplant as a result of iron overload. In conclusion, Koenig notes:
If your doctor tells you that you have fatty liver disease, you probably have high iron, high ferritin. He probably will not test you for that. Get the test. You can see some benefit by donating blood, or changing your diet. On my website, I have about 700 publications. If you want to dig into it, its a section. Find out how to reduce [your iron] by diet alone. Its been done and done successfully.

Why Do Dogs Have Cold and Wet Noses
Why Do Dogs Have Cold and Wet Noses
I had gotten so used to being woken up by my pet dog poking his cold and wet nose into my face every morning, that Id hardly given it a thought for quite some time. Till one morning, his nose didnt feel cold and wet. Instead it was warm and dry. That is when I gave it some thought, and wondered to myself, "Why do dogs have cold and wet noses?" Here are a few of the reasons that I found. Read on, if you are as curious as I was.
Reasons Why Dogs Have Cold and Wet Noses
There are a few reasons as to why dogs have cold, wet noses, and in the following paragraphs I will elaborate on those points. Unlike what many people assume, it is not one of the major symptoms of cold in your dog. Some of the reasons stated below have scientific backing and research, while others are logical. Lets take a look at them.
1. Cooling Mechanism
Dogs do not have sweat glands all over their body, unlike humans. There is no way for them to release the heat that is building up in their bodies, except from their paws and through their noses. They have the eccrine sweat glands in the skin of their noses, which help slightly to regulate their body temperature by keeping the nose moist, although the main thermo-regulation comes from panting, urinating, and sweating from the paws.
2. Heightens Olfactory Sense
A wet nose heightens the olfactory sense of dogs. Smell is carried by different gases in the air. Since the dogs nose is wet, the gases (carrying the smell) settle more easily on the nose and thus aid smelling. Just like when we wet our hands, and even lightly touch salt and sugar, the grains stick to our fingers, which wouldnt be the case if our hands were really dry. It works in a similar fashion, except that the odor molecules are not visible to the naked eye. This helps working dogs when they are supposed to track down things and people, by picking up their scent. The dogs nose also frequently secretes a thin layer of mucus, to keep the nose moist and trap the odor molecules.
3. Licking and Cleaning
These are the more obvious reasons why dogs have cold and wet noses. Dogs continuously keep licking their noses. This is partly to keep it moist to aid in cooling them down, while the other reason is to clean their noses, specially after meals. This also helps them to prevent mucus from building up on their noses, so that their noses are not blocked. Blocked noses will not help them smell anything, which is their primary strength. Wet noses exposed to air will be cold.
4. Evolutionary Attribute
Wet and cold noses are not only associated with dogs, but many other animals too. It is very prominent in dogs. This adaptation developed in the process of evolution, since it helped them sniff and track their prey and predators better. It would either help them in hunting, or in case of the hunted, protect them from their predators. It proved very useful for hunting dogs, and has been passed down, even though many breeds have now been domesticated.
The wet and cold noses of dogs are also linked to their health. If a dog has a wet and cold nose, it usually means that he is healthy. But this is not the most reliable indication of his health. When dogs have been inactive for a while, like when they have been sleeping, their noses may become dry and slightly warm. This does not mean that they are unwell. Sometimes even dogs with perfectly wet and cold noses may also be sick. The best (and my favorite) explanation, though, is the legend! Here is how the legend goes...
5. The Legend
We all know the story of Noahs Ark, right? And how the animals went in pairs on the ark? The dogs were there too. Soon after everyone had gotten on, there was a small scare on the ark. A tiny hole was discovered in the ark, which was causing it to flood. This hole was discovered by a dog who used his wit and jammed his nose into the hole to stop the ark from flooding. While he was sitting there with his nose in the hole, his mate went and alerted Noah about the situation. Noah then repaired the ark, and the problem was solved because of the quick wit and selfless nature of the dog. God was very happy with the dogs and so he bestowed them with cold and wet noses as a sign of good health! And that is why dogs have cold and wet noses. Next time someone asks you the reason, tell them its a gift from God!
Jokes apart, if your dogs nose turns from wet to runny, it could be a symptom of cold, in which case, it is better to have him checked by his vet, rather than assuming that their noses are supposed to be that way.

Why NOT to Buy Eyewear or Glasses Online
Why NOT to Buy Eyewear or Glasses Online
Did you know that in Massachusetts the state regulates that eyewear is a medical device and by law it is required to be fit and dispensed (provided) by a qualified licensed Optician or a registered apprentice? On-line businesses do not follow this regulation, however they are permitted to provide eyewear because they are based outside of state and/or country lines. Your Optometrist or Ophthalmologist is required to provide you the needed binocular pupillary measurement, know as your PD. However, this is a generic measurement that may not result in a pair of eyewear with optimal visual performance, especially if you wear progressive (no-line) lenses or have a difficult prescription.
At DAmbrosio Eye Care there are several measurements and considerations when customizing a pair of eyewear that includes a monocular pupillary or visual center measurement (VCP), your visual needs, prescription, lens type, frame style, wrap angle, vertex distance, pantoscopic tilt, base curve, head and facial features, the intended use for your eyewear and previous eyewear worn. When fitting eyewear we also make precision adjustments so you are looking through the optical center of the lens. Our Opticians also want your frame to fit properly so they do not slip on your nose, pinch the sides of your head, leave red marks or cause discomfort behind your ears or on your nose. Any of these concerns may cause headaches and/or decreased vision. The human face is not symmetrical left to right so using only your binocular PD will not place the pupils in the visual center of the lens and possibly cause distortion, unwanted prism and headaches. Taking this measurement yourself- as some online stores request you do is tricky-somewhat akin to trying to cut your own hair.
We did our own research on an online competitor and found that once you purchase your eyewear that you choose without a licensed professional - you have only 10 days to contact them if something isnt right and, if you are provided a warranty within that timeframe, you have to pay a restocking fee. So when something does go wrong or you need an adjustment they are not going to help you. DAmbrosio Eye Care offers a no-fee 1-year warranty and we adjust your eyewear at no cost for the life of your purchase, when you purchase with us. Because to us you are our patient, to them only a customer.
Please stop by any of our optical departments or contact DAmbrosio Eye Care at 800-325-3937 for more information.

Four or More Tag Because Why Not
Four or More Tag Because Why Not
Ive been seeing this pop up on YouTube and thought it was such a neat tag. How often have we fallen in love with a beauty product and went to stock up when they were on sale? This tag was created by ItsKeersten (click the link to see the original four or more video) and I considered myself tagged by EmilyNoel83, whom I watch regularly.
I knew that I would for sure have four or more of some things, but I was actually surprised! I guess I didnt realize that I reach of the same products time and again. What can I say, when it works, it works.
I took these pictures at ten at night on my living room rug. Because Im a professional.

I dont know why, but I was surprised by how many lip products I have. I shouldnt have been, considering this picture I posted on Instagram a while back:
I was carrying all of that.... in my purse. Every Day.
Yeah I shouldnt have been surprised.
Back to my four or more collection, if you look closely, youll see that I have two sets of lip products that only have three. Yup, Im breaking the rules.
YOU DONT OWN ME.
I figure, I have three and I would have all of them if I could. So, I included them. Im going to start with the products I have the most of and end with the least.

Internet, meet Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter. I adore these. Seriously. They are just so comfortable on the lips, nice and sparkly but totally appropriate. I love them.

060 Gum Drop
This is super neon purple and I like pairing it with NYX Castle (which youll see later.)

027 Juicy Papaya
This is my most recent purchase and it is perfect for spring! I love it.

095 Creme Brulee

025 Peach Parfait
This is the first one I purchased - a long, long time ago - and you can tell I love it. Its almost gone. Ill be definitely repurchasing.

045 Cotton Candy

050 Berry Smoothie

070 Cherry Tart
They have so many great colors, I love them. I didnt swatch all of these because I didnt think of it. Oh well.

To be perfectly honest.... I didnt purchase these Shimmer Glosses from eyes.lips.face. I KNOW. My friend Denise did. While I was visiting her in LA, she gave them to me because she wasnt a fan of the consistency. I, however, love them! They are so light, only stick if you glob it on. I love the pigmentation and they just feel so....smooth. I would TOTALLY buy all of the colors. And its e.l.f. Cheap and awesome. Boom. These colors are (from left to right) Love, Hope, Inspire and Dream.

These are the Wet & Wild lipsticks. Super affordable, great pigmentation and a good range of colors. I really love 903C. So pretty.

Im sure everyone has heard of the NYX shadow sticks. These are great bases. I use Milk (the white) the most. It makes eyeshadow colors really pop. Next to that, I use Sparkle Nude. Its a great highlight color in the inner corner. I use the brown as a crease color and have only use the blue has a pop of color below the bottom lash line.

I wrote about these shadows before and I like them. I use the white for the inner corner highlight or even for the brow bone. The pink and the brown are so pretty all over the lid for one product eyeshadow looks. The blue Ive used in the center of the eyelid for a pop of color or to lighten a darker, smokier look. I havent tried these wet and I wonder if the blue would be cute used with an eyeliner brush? Hmm. Here are the previous photos I shared, they show the colors way better.

Okay, time for the honorable mentions. I almost have four of each of these and that has to mean something right?! I picked up these three NYX lipsticks when I picked up the individual eyeshadows above. I wear them all the time - especially Castle.

I am straight up obsessed with purple lips. Seriously. I mix Castle with Revlon Gumdrop and it is bright and bold. I love it. On more neutral days I will gravitate towards Rose Bud and I just love the color and tone of Doll. So pretty.

These are the Covergirl LipPerfection Lipcolors in Delicious, Eternal and Honeyed. I just noticed that the NYX lipsticks is a purple, a red and a neutrally pink. Im sure a creature of habit. Insane. Anyways, Ive been know to mix Honeyed with Castle and Gum Drop to tone down the purple. Makes it a bit more wearable.

Anyways, that is all folks! My four or more. Im glad this wasnt a collection post because my lip product collection is ridiculous.

Why do music shows hold so much power when they only get 1 viewer ratings
Why do music shows hold so much power when they only get 1 viewer ratings

Article: How do music shows remain so powerful even with only 1% in viewer ratings?
Source: Sports Donga via Nate
1. [+184, -10] To regular viewers, it may seem like groups just come on to perform a song or two before leaving but these groups actually have to be there by early morning and are on standby for an indefinite amount of time until recording and the live broadcast. Then they have to stay for the live just to clap for everyone before leaving. The reason viewer ratings for music shows are so low is because fans dont have to actually watch the show to watch everyone else to wait for their favorite artist to perform. They can just grab a video link after the performance.
2. [+159, -4] The shows may not matter to popular groups but rookies or artists from weaker agencies need to pander to these music shows and its so sad... They also wait up to 12 hours for these shows just to perform for a couple of minutes on stage. Even then, viewers dont watch anymore because its easier to watch performance clips on Naver than sit through it all. Furthermore, music shows are heavily based around idols so people who arent interested in that wont watch.
3. [+106, -3] I just find the entire concept of music shows so boring. Having two MCs try so hard to be funny when theyre not at all is annoying.
4. [+17, -0] There used to be ballads and hip hop and dance performances back then... but now its just the same old sounding songs... ??
5. [+15, -3] SBS Inkigayo is the strangest for me.. theyre so biased towards YG, why is that???
6. [+12, -0] Music shows have always been known for abusing their power. Dont want to go on IAC? Well you can kiss your Music Core slot goodbye. If you piss any of them off, you can forget about being able to perform a full three minutes of your song ??? I also cant stand the camera work on these shows. Back and forth, swirling around ?? Zooming in on the wrong member when someone else is singing... what is the point of having 3-4 rehearsals when they just broadcast the first one anyway... ???
7. [+8, -0] These shows obviously put agencies at a loss but they have no option but to put them on them. I didnt know before but I found out that agencies have to pay for the stage setups too which is why theres such a stark difference in stage quality between all of the groups. That expense on top of all the hair, make up, different outfits for every stage, the fact that outfits are also produced by their own stylists or are luxury brands, on top of the 10+ hours of waiting so you cant schedule other activities...
8. [+8, -2] SM is even more powerful ? Their rookies get the best recording schedule and get to perform two songs while other nugu agencies have to be there by early morning just to wait around to perform a 2 minute song.
9. [+8, -0] No one watches unless youre a fan. Poor sound quality and the camera work is head ache inducing.
10. [+8, -0] Video uploading has become so much faster that you can pick and choose who you want to watch right after the show so theres no reason to watch the live broadcast
