How Important Is It to Wash New Clothes Before Wearing Them

How Important Is It to Wash New Clothes Before Wearing Them

How Important Is It to Wash New Clothes Before Wearing Them?
January 30, 2016 | 250,122 views

By Dr. Mercola
Raise your hand if youre guilty of bringing home a new shirt or pair of pants from the store and wearing them, sans washing. Its very common, maybe even typical, as many fabrics look pristine when theyre fresh off the rack.
You probably assume theyre clean or at least relatively so, but tests conducted by Philip Tierno, Ph.D. director of Microbiology and Immunology at New York University, at the behest of Good Morning America, uncovered some disturbing compounds lurking on clothing.
And this is only one reason to consider washing before wearing. Many clothing items are also contaminated with chemicals and dyes that may lead to irritation or other health issues.
Even insects (like lice) could potentially be transmitted on new clothes. If youre currently not a washer-before-wearing type, you may change your mind by the end of this article.
Feces, Respiratory Secretions, Vaginal Organisms and More
Tierno tested pants, blouses, underwear, jackets and other clothing items purchased from chain clothing stores (including both high-end and low-end options). The tests revealed a number of unsavory compounds lurking on the "new" clothes, including:1
  • Respiratory secretions
  • Skin flora
  • Fecal flora
  • Yeast
Perhaps not surprisingly, swimsuits, underwear and other intimate items were the most heavily contaminated. Tierno told ABC News:2
"Some garments were grossly contaminated with many organisms … indicating that either many people tried it or ... someone tried it on with heavy contamination …
In a sense, you are touching somebodys arm pit or groin. So you want to be protected thats all … You may not come down with anything and, most cases you dont, but its potentially possible."
What types of illnesses could you potentially get from trying on contaminated clothes? Organisms that cause hepatitis A, travelers diarrhea, MRSA, salmonella, norovirus, yeast infections and streptococcus are all fair game when it comes to clothing items tried on by multiple people.
Even lice and scabies could potentially be transmitted by trying on clothes. Is it likely? No. Possible? Yes, particularly if your immune system is not functioning up to par. Tierno told The Huffington Post:3
"The good thing is that most people have a very robust immune system, so they can usually fight off the small number of organisms they may get on their body … The fact that you come into contact with one doesnt mean youre going to get sick."
Chemical Contaminants: Another Reason to Wash New Clothes
Depending on what country your new clothes were manufactured in, they may contain multiple chemicals of concern. Among them are azo-aniline dyes, which may cause skin reactions ranging from mild to severe.
If youre sensitive, such dyes may leave your skin red, itchy and dry, especially where the fabric rubs on your skin, such as at your waist, neck, armpits and thighs. The irritants can be mostly washed out, but it might take multiple washings to do so.
Formaldehyde resins are also used in clothing to cut down on wrinkling and mildew. Not only is formaldehyde a known carcinogen, but the resins have been linked to eczema and may cause your skin to become flaky or erupt in a rash.4
Nonylphenol ethoxylate (NPE), meanwhile, is a toxic endocrine-disrupting surfactant used to manufacture clothing.
You certainly dont want to be exposed to NPE if you can help it, but when consumers wash their clothes, NPEs are released into local water supplies where wastewater treatment plants are unable to remove them.
When NPEs enter the environment, they break down into nonylphenol (NP), a toxic, endocrine-disrupting chemical that accumulates in sediments and builds up in fish and wildlife.
Chemicals May Lurk in Your Clothing Even After Washing
Unfortunately, washing wont remove all the chemicals in your clothing. For instance, the antimicrobial triclosan is sometimes added to fabrics, including clothing. Research has shown that triclosan can alter hormone regulation and may interfere with fetal development.
Animal studies have also raised concerns about its ability to affect fertility, and bacteria exposed to triclosan may also become resistant to antibiotics. Even an increased cancer risk has been suggested.
Stain-proof clothing, meanwhile, is a common source of perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), which are toxic to humans and the environment. Youll most often hear about PFCs in relation to non-stick cookware, but theyre also common in fabrics.
Unless the clothing you buy is organic, it also is likely made from genetically engineered (GE) cotton that is heavily treated with pesticides and other chemicals during production. The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) explained:5
"The chemicals used in cotton production dont end with cultivation. As an aid in harvesting, herbicides are used to defoliate the plants, making picking easier.
Producing a textile from the plants involves more chemicals in the process of bleaching, sizing, dying, straightening, shrink reduction, stain and odor resistance, fireproofing, mothproofing, and static- and wrinkle-reduction.
Some of these chemicals are applied with heat, thus bonding them to the cotton fibers. Several washings are done throughout the process, but some of the softeners and detergents leave a residue that will not totally be removed from the final product.
Chemicals often used for finishing include formaldehyde, caustic soda, sulfuric acid, bromines, urea resins, sulfonamides, halogens, and bromines.
Some imported clothes are now impregnated with long-lasting disinfectants which are very hard to remove, and whose smell gives them away. These and the other chemical residues affect people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.
Also, people have developed allergic reactions, such as hives, to formaldehyde through skin contact with solutions on durable-press clothing containing formaldehyde."
Conventionally Grown GE Cotton Is the Worlds Dirtiest Crop
You might be surprised to learn that cotton is considered the worlds dirtiest crop due to the cotton industrys heavy use of hazardous herbicides and insecticides, including some of the most hazardous insecticides on the market. According to the Organic Trade Association:6
"Cotton is considered the worlds dirtiest crop due to its heavy use of insecticides, the most hazardous pesticide to human and animal health. Cotton covers 2.5% of the worlds cultivated land yet uses 16% of the worlds insecticides, more than any other single major crop.
Aldicarb, parathion, and methamidopho, three of the most acutely hazardous insecticides to human health as determined by the World Health Organization, rank in the top ten most commonly used in cotton production.
All but one of the remaining seven most commonly used are classified as moderately to highly hazardous.
Aldicarb, cottons second best selling insecticide and most acutely poisonous to humans, can kill a man with just one drop absorbed through the skin, yet it is still used in 25 countries and the US, where 16 states have reported it in their groundwater."
As you might suspect, this is hazardous on multiple levels — for the farmers working with these chemicals, the people living nearby, the consumers buying the cotton and virtually everyone else, who will eventually be impacted by this widespread environmental pollution.
This is one reason why I strongly encourage you to choose organic cotton clothing whenever possible — it will not be genetically engineered and subject to this onslaught of toxic exposures.
Top Tips for Safer Clothing
Looking for clothing made from organic cotton is an excellent start to finding safe, non-toxic clothing (for you and the environment). You can also look for the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 label, which is indicative that it has been tested by an independent laboratory and found to be free of harmful levels of more than 100 substances, including:
  • Azo dyes
  • Phthalates
  • Heavy metals
  • Pesticides
  • Allergenic dyes
Finally, many experts do recommend washing new clothes when you bring them home from the store, maybe even twice. If the article of clothing cannot be machine washed, consider running it through a cycle in a hot dryer before wearing it.

You may also want to keep on some clothes while trying on new clothing at a store (at least leave on your undergarments, and then wash those too when you get home). Washing your hands after shopping is also a good idea, as youve been handling clothing that could have any number of chemicals and other contaminants on them.

The Quiet Before the Storm

The Quiet Before the Storm

Sue Alexander and Dfer, her service dog, left first thing this morning for New York City and then Brent headed to Toledo for the day. I had an infusion and found out that my lung capacity is currently below 20%, which is low, even for me. Im wheezing and it seems like I have chronic bronchitis so next week, were doing a CAT scan and some other testing. Its nice to know the reason Ive been feeling crappy and the doctors seem to think huge doses of antibiotics will help. Ive spent the day encouraging the Labs to relax and take it easy ... Tomorrow, our son, Devin flies in from NYC and our daughter, Kristen, her boyfriend, Sean and their Pointer, Soapy (9 months old) arrive for a quick visit (after being in Alaska since April). We picked Soapy up from the breeders and he spent time with us as a very young puppy so he and Laurel are good friends but he has never met Hardy before.
I taught my Levels class this evening. The more I work with other dogs and their handlers within the Levels program, the better I think it is suited for group classes. I ask each handler to think about and write out their own goals (with the understanding that they may change) since Levels allows each team to work within their own ability towards their own goals. Its been really terrific to see relationships between the handlers and their dogs grow and to watch the handlers get excited about those changes.

5 days before we see Hardy again!

5 days before we see Hardy again!

Not that Im counting but its 5 days until we head back up to Guelph to see Hardy and bring him  home! This weekend, he participated in DogFest 1, an overnight camping event held at Sue and Johns farm for dogs and their people. According to Sue, Hardy is no longer a little pup; he is now a giant pup (and Ive seen the proof on Facebook). Apparently, he was "... a perfect gentleman and helped all his dog friends to enjoy themselves in the yard. He was a good boy on the walk and was snoozing on the back porch." Sue also mentioned that he is a teenager now ... a bit of a warning, in case I was expecting him to be wonderful all the time. Apparently, she forgets that my other Lab is Laurel - Miss "No Natural Self Control" and whose brain was apparently on back order and didnt show up until she was 3 years old. So shes had a brain for a year now and although I do enjoy it and probably even take it for granted some, I do remember what it was like before it showed up. Thank goodness, Laurel has always understood the difference between when she is working and when she is being "just a dog". Im also grateful that she doesnt act as though being a service dog is too confining; the fact is, she still makes it fun - just with a ton more control than she otherwise demonstrates. Although Laurel may not have been the easiest dog to work with and train as a service dog; Im hoping that the difference in Hardys temperament makes it easier for him to do the job! I think I owe it to the dogs I decide to train as my service dogs to try to choose ones who are most able to do the job with a minimum of stress. Although Laurel is an amazing mobility and alert service dog, that is probably against all odds and although I do everything I can to keep her stress levels down, I think its important to take all that Ive learned through my experience with her to make it easier and better for my next service dog candidate (lucky Hardy!).

Why you should not wrap your food in Aluminum Foil Before Cooking it

Why you should not wrap your food in Aluminum Foil Before Cooking it

Why You Shouldn’t Wrap Your Food In Aluminum Foil Before Cooking It
Food Science, Food Toxins, Future of Food0

If you’re baking fish, roasting vegetables or preparing a piece of meat for dinner tonight, chances are that you’ll wrap your food in aluminium foil. What you may not realize is that some of the foil will leach into your meal – and this could be bad for your health.
Research that I conducted with a group of colleagues has explored the use of aluminium for cooking and preparing food. Aluminium doesn’t just appear in foil: it is the most popular cookware material used by people in developing countries. Pots and pans are lined with it and it is found in some kitchen utensils like large serving spoons. Copper used to fulfil this role, but over time it’s been replaced by aluminium because it is cheaper to mass produce and easier to clean.
But while cooking your food in aluminium pots or pans isn’t a bad thing, placing it in foil and putting it in the oven is problematic. This is especially true with acidic or spicy food that’s prepared at high temperatures.
Aluminium and health
Human bodies can excrete small amounts of aluminium very efficiently. This means that minimal exposure to aluminium is not a problem: the World Health Organisation has established a safe daily intake of 40mg per kilogram of body weight per day. So for a person who weighs 60kg the allowable intake would be 2400 mg.
But most people are exposed to and ingest far more than this suggested safe daily intake. Aluminium is present in corn, yellow cheese, salt, herbs, spices and tea. It’s used in cooking utensils, as described above, as well as in pharmacological agents like antacids and antiperspirants. Aluminium sulfate, which is derived from aluminium, is used as a coagulant during the purification process of drinking water.
Scientists are exploring whether over-exposure to aluminium may be posing threats to human health. For instance, high concentrations of aluminium have been detected in the brain tissue of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have examined the community of old people with Alzheimer’s and concluded that it is a modern disease that’s developed from altered living conditions associated with society’s industrialisation. These conditions may include high levels of aluminium in daily life.
Aluminium poses other health risks, too. Studies have suggested that high aluminium intake may be harmful to some patients with bone diseases or renal impairment. It also reduces the growth rate of human brain cells.
Avoid foil when cooking
Given all of these proven risks, it’s important to determine the aluminium concentration when cooking. Pots and other cookware tend to be oxidised, providing an inert layer that prevents the aluminium from leaching into food. The problem is that when you scrub your pots after cooking, that layer is worn away and the aluminium can seep into your food. This is easily avoided: when you get new aluminium pots, boil water in them several times until the base becomes matt. This creates a natural oxidation that prevents leaching. They may look nicer when they’re scrubbed and shiny, but a matt base is better for your food and your health.
But cooking your food in foil is a different story. Aluminium foil is disposable and you will not be able to create that inert layer prior to using it. My research found that the migration of aluminium into food during the cooking process of food wrapped in aluminium foil is above the permissible limit set by the World Health Organisation.

An error occurred.

Try watching this video on www.youtube.com, or enable JavaScript if it is disabled in your browser.
Ghada Bassioni explains the research she and her colleagues conducted.
Aluminium is significantly more likely to leach into food, and at higher levels, in acidic and liquid food solutions like lemon and tomato juice than in those containing alcohol or salt. Leaching levels climb even more when spice is added to food that’s cooked in aluminium foil. Anything acidic sparks a particularly aggressive process that dissolves layers of aluminium into food.
This research suggests that aluminium foil should not be used for cooking. Instead, we’d recommend using glassware or porcelain when preparing baked dishes. It’s safe to wrap cold food in foil, though not for long stretches of time because food has a shelf life and because aluminium in the foil will begin to leach into the food depending on ingredients like spices.

The Calm Before The Storm

The Calm Before The Storm

I have a few different things to share with you about my weekend, but before I do I wanted to show you a quick hair re-do I did at work. On my break, I sent this picture to Denise to show her that I had one of those really thick eyeliner days, where you plan to do a thin line but it just keeps getting thicker and thicker? I also was having a bad hair day and so we laughed about bringing the bump back. Before I ended my break, I realized how bad my hair really looked when I hit up the ladies room. I took my hair down (and made sure to use take a funny picture for Denise, cause, duh, and then used my monitor to fix it. I think it came out alright, dont you?

Im about to spend five nights away from my son and to say Im freaking out about it is an absolute understatement. Its going to be very difficult for me. While in LA, Ill be really busy so Im hoping the days just fly by. The nights will be the hardest. :(

Saturday we had some special Momma/Shepherd time at the park. We had a great time exploring and we didnt have any accidents with ducks - so that was great! There was one moment where Shepherd tried to grab duck poop but I caught him in time. Boys are so gross.

(You cant see it but he raised his hand at the end. :)

Yesterday, we had a low key morning, where I focused mostly on playing with Shepherd and reading a book for school. Denise was in town, so we got together for a few hours. We ran a few errands and then picked up the boys to go over to my Mom and Larrys house to swim! Denise had to leave early but we stayed for dinner. It was a great time just hanging out with Larry in the backyard. My Mom is in the Azores right now she missed out on the fun. :)

Although Ill be gone this weekend, I have some posts lined up so you wont miss me too bad. Also, Im going to be tweeting, so make sure to follow me on Twitter, @meganlauriana. Ill be tweeting about what Im dealing with at school and also all the many times I make a fool out of myself. You can enjoy my awkward from afar.

Hope you have a great week!

IOI to conclude album promos at Dream Concert and split into units before January disbandment

IOI to conclude album promos at Dream Concert and split into units before January disbandment

Article: IOI to conclude album promos at Dream Concert... group is over in January

Source: TV Report via Naver

1. [+924, -35] Just more exhausting for the kids...

2. [+923, -63] All they ever talk about is how this group is ending or over, theres no way thats good morale for them

3. [+570, -45] Its too short ??

4. [+493, -62] Isnt this too short ??? lets do one more year!!

5. [+380, -42] I wish time would slow down

6. [+114, -12] The way I see it, I dont think agencies are too fond of IOI promos. They probably want to debut them in their own groups while their popularity is fresh... but instead theyre tied to IOI and they probably know that their popularity wont be at its peak like it is now by the time IOI is done. Thats why they keep putting out articles talking about how IOI is concluding this and that.

7. [+92, -9] I dont think any of the Produce 101 members will have that big of an impact once they go back to their own groups. CLC seemed like they were getting the Kwon Eunbin effect but their song fell off the charts right away and I doubt DIA will achieve any more results just for having Jung Chaeyeon back.

8. [+74, -8] Well Im sure each agency wants to take back their trainees asap since they need to start building a future with them. Its the agencies who want IOI to disband fast.

Article: IOI Im Nayoung and Joo Kyulkyung to promote with Pledis on June 25th "During IOI hiatus"

Source: Herald Pop via Naver

1. [+3,606, -221] Is it really that hard for agencies to just wait a year? Theyre going to exhaust these kids

2. [+2,230, -106] Its only a one time special guest promo, dont make it seem controversial

3. [+1,343, -175] I guess theyre all going back to their agencies now that group promos are over ??? fighting to both!

4. [+860, -132] I guess this is how it is. Please work hard for IOI too.

5. [+291, -15] Its basically a fan service promo while theyre taking a break from IOI, I think thats understandable

6. [+196, -9] After Dream Concert, IOI is going to split into units. The members who arent promoting in units at the time are going to work with their agencies. And besides, these two are just performing at their own agencys concert as a one time thing.

7. [+183, -14] Dont be mad at them, its just a one time performance~~~

Article: DIA reps, "Chaeyeon joins DIA, IOI events + team promos = June plans"

Source: OSEN via Daum

1. [+163, -4] Jung Chaeyeon is only popular for her IOI fame, shes just your average idol without them...

2. [+127, -3] Talk about shooting yourself in the foot

3. [+107, -2] Dont care anymore... I support IOI, dont care about DIA

4. [+35, -0] Did they not hear that IOI fans would be boycotting them if they went through with this plan?

5. [+34, -1] Kwang Soo-ya, I hope you realize that Jung Chaeyeon without IOI is nothing

6. [+29, -0] This will 100% come back to bite them

7. [+24, -2] I wish the best for her but that also means its the best for Kwang Soo, which I hate... how ironic.

8. [+22, -0] SISTAR, Red Velvet, EXID, etc are all coming back in June. Chaeyeon is better off doing unit promos with IOI and getting more popularity... no point at all in promoting with DIA, its just going to complicate things. Kwang Soos the worst.

Boil Bananas Before Bed

Boil Bananas Before Bed

ind and body, recipe
Boil Bananas Before Bed, Drink The Liquid & You Won’t Believe WHAT HAPPENS While You SLEEP!!
TEAM - 3:09 AM

  • We’ve all had those restless nights of tossing and turning, staring at the ceiling, unable to get more than a couple hours of shuteye. The more you worry about not sleeping, the more your mind races, and next thing you know, the sun is peeking through the window. I’ve spent one too many nights this way and needed to put an end to my poor sleeping patterns. I came across this delicious tea recipe and it improved my cycle completely.

Irregular sleeping patterns or even insomnia can stem from several different things like depression, stress and anxiety. Almost every night, I would get into bed and my mind would be racing. Whether I was thinking about work, family, or simply the things I needed to get done the next day, I just couldn’t allow myself to relax. If your mind is active, chances are you won’t fall asleep.

Certain medications can also cause insomnia. Pain medications, antihistamines, and heart and blood pressure medicines are among the many that contribute to sleep loss. Yes, some meds might actually make you drowsy at first, but they can also trigger frequent bathroom trips or anxiety which can further disturb your rest.

Whether it’s one of these issues or maybe it’s that you’re addicted to your phone when you should be sleeping, something needs to change.

    Banana Tea

Using only a couple items that are likely already in your kitchen, you can whip together a banana tea in no time! This organic, banana-infused sleep remedy works wonders and tastes so good. How does it work? Bananas, especially the peels, are loaded with potassium and magnesium. While magnesium helps prevent sleep disturbances, both magnesium and potassium work together to help relax muscles. In fact, magnesium is one of the best minerals for relaxation! Keep in mind, this recipe calls for 100% organic bananas. Bananas that are not organic are loaded with harmful pesticides and since we encourage you to eat the boiled peel, it must be chemical-free. This tea takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and can be enjoyed every night before bed.

    Ingredients
    • 1 organic banana
    • 1 small pot of water
    • a dash of cinnamon (optional)
All you need to do is cut off both ends of the banana and place it, peel and all, into boiling water. Boil it for around 10 minutes. Using a colander, pour the water into a mug. If you’re feeling adventurous, sprinkle the cinnamon into the tea. Drink it one hour before bed time.

If you’re worried about being wasteful, you’ve clearly never had a boiled banana before! After the banana has been boiled, sprinkle some cinnamon over it. Eating the warm, gooey fruit and its peel along with the tea will increase its soothing effects… Not to mention it makes a yummy dessert!

    Why Sleeping Pills Are Bad

Out of despair, many of us have resorted to sleeping pills and with almost half of the American population suffering from insomnia or poor sleep, it’s no wonder. But here’s the thing: sleeping pills cannot help you long-term. They provide a short-term fix.

The majority of sleeping pills are a specific type of drug that induces and maintains sleep. They’re classified as something called sedative hypnotics. Among other sedative hypnotic drugs are benzodiazepines and barbiturates. Benzodiazepines—like Xanax and Valium—can be addictive and are used to treat anxiety disorders by increasing drowsiness. Barbiturates depress the central nervous system are used as anesthetics and sedatives.

As with all drugs, there’s a list of side effects that accompany sleeping pills. Aside from the likeliness of them being habit-forming, they can cause the following:
    • Constipation
    • Dizziness
    • Difficulty focusing and remembering
    • Stomach pain
    • Weakness
    • Uncontrollable shaking
    • Parasomnias (Doing things without realizing it… Scary!)
Sleeping pills also cause your breathing rhythm to slow down and significantly lighten. This means that if you’re already suffering from lung diseases like COPD or even asthma, these meds can be dangerous and even fatal.

How Sleep Deprivation Affects the Body

Getting less than eight hours of sleep is bad for your body. When I found out the consequences little to no sleep had on my body, I panicked!

When your body doesn’t get enough rest, generally less than eight hours, it suffers. Cognitive function—your long- and short-term memory—is seriously affected. Have you ever tried to focus on a task while running on zero fuel? I have and I know it’s near impossible. Processing even the simplest things seems challenging and your emotional responses to things become totally skewed. The scariest part is that sleep deprivation has been linked to serious health problems including obesity, diabetes and cancer.

It’s important to figure out why you’re not sleeping the way you used to and work on fixing it. I now look forward to this tea each night; it’s 100% natural, it smells and tastes great, and it has worked tremendously for me.

Dr. Oz had an episode for natural remedies for insomnia. Banana tea was mentioned and I thought I would do a taste test to see if I would “Love it, or leave it alone.”

Preparing Outer and Inner Self Before Giving Birth

Preparing Outer and Inner Self Before Giving Birth

Some factors may help contribute to an easy delivery. It is important to prepare both the outer and inner self. Taking care of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually can help you prepare for an easy natural childbirth. Below are some suggestions that might be helpful.

    Physical
It is essential for every pregnant woman to take prenatal vitamins, eat healthy foods and do some easy exercises. You can ask your doctor to suggest an exercise regime that will help strengthen your body and prepare you for labor. Your doctor may suggest stretching and walking.

    Emotional
Some women especially first time mothers-to-be tend to be overcome with worries and fears. Too much worrying can build up tension and lead to stress. It would help if you focus on happy thoughts. Look on the brighter side of giving birth. Think about how wonderful it would be to feel your baby in your arms for the first time.

Be surrounded with people and things that make you happy. Read uplifting books, listen to soothing music, watch a movie with a happy ending or simply enjoy good and healthy food. Spend time with family and friends who can give you the moral support that you need.

    Spiritual
Praying and meditating may help you prepare for labor. Prayer has the power to give us courage to face what the future may bring. Believing that God will help you in your time of labor can give you the will and strength you need at that moment. Praying for safe delivery can bring inner peace, put fears at bay and help calm the senses.

I dropped an F bomb right before Journey Group

I dropped an F bomb right before Journey Group

Wednesday evening was our first small group, which our church (its weird to say type that) lovingly calls Journey groups. Makes sense. They encourage their rather large congregation to break off and get to know each other and walk through life together.

Bryan and I have been attempting this thing called attending church. Bryan is all for it and Im on the fence. Considering that out of the four weeks weve gone, I made us late to three of them. Last week, Ill have you know, that I was ready a half hour before church began. So you know, Im amazing. It only took Bryan and I getting into four fights about it before we collectively decided that while he got to sleep in (like every other day) I get to wake up at my normal time (too early) so that I can get ready in peace.

So last week I got to sleep in a whole zero days. Add in a rather frustrating project on charter school petitions which meant lots of late nights. Dumb.

Back to Journey Group. Let me set the scene by going back to Sunday. Sunday we went to church but while we were there, I started not to feel so good. Like... not at all good. When I got home, I got straight in bed and ended up with some weird stomach flu/virus thing that made me not eat for more than 24 hours. I felt absolutely terrible. I missed work on Monday and Ive just been thrown off my game all week. Food is not a friend, you get what I mean?

Bryan hasnt been feeling so hot either so were just amazing to be around. I told Bryan on Tuesday evening what was for dinner on Wednesday AND THEN reminded him in the morning to take out some tilapia from the freezer. How irritated was I when I got home and was told that we would not be cooking dinner because there wasnt "time". Frying up some fish, microwaving some green beans and there wasnt time?????

I decided not to pursue a fight because I am extremely mature and decided wed pick something up. Bryan had been in charge of figuring out the details of our group because he is familiar with the people who are hosting it. Do you know what he didnt do? Figure out the time, place or phone number of the hosts. We had zero information about where we were going.

    Add another layer of irritation.

I keep pushing Bryan to help me figure it out and get Shepherd ready so we can get out the door to grab food and hes about as helpful as a bump on a log. In complete frustration I call HIS MOTHER and she gets me the information which..... sigh. It is now 5:56pm and were pretty sure the group starts at 6:30. Im like hustling to get everything together and we leave.

We had a hard time deciding where to go. I wanted to go to a Subway that was close to where the house was. Bryan decided to go to Port of Subs which was farther away from the house. We go in and there is a line. When I go up to order I ask Bryan what he wants and he says he doesnt want anything.

Im so sorry, but I almost lost my SHIT right there. Like, we started whispering back and forth to each other in that way that married couples do when they are pissed at each other in public... Youve either seen it or done it. No judgement.

I inhale my sandwich and we arrive right before 6:30....................................except there are no cars. We got there a half hour early. Group starts at SEVEN. As I was getting the diaper bag out of the car I made some comment that most definitely had the f-word in it. I just ate food in .2 seconds when my stomach has been completely ridiculous all week. I paid for that all evening/night long.

As the host is doing last minute house cleaning and dishes and getting coffee set up, shes also making small talk with her lame guests that showed up thirty minutes early.

It was all good. Its par for the course for most people trying to get to church, something always goes wrong. I am never more of a heinous biotch than I am on Sunday mornings. We will all face adversity when we are trying to breathe something good into our lives.

That adversity may cause us to utter a few cuss words or bicker with our significant others, but the end result is worth the struggle. Soon there will be less and less of the adversity and the joy of attending, creating new relationships and strengthening others is worth it. A routine will be formed and the struggle you faced trying to better your life will be a distant memory.
