In addition diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, inflammatory bowel disease in dogs and poor digestion can also contribute to the problem. Stress and other such problems can also trigger off an upset stomach.

  • Loose watery, and in some cases bloody stool
  • Lethargy
  • Persistent high fever
  • Increased thirst
  • Dehydration
Upset Stomach Remedies for Your Dog

Restrict Food: For dogs suffering from an upset stomach, the first rule is to restrict the food for a minimum of twelve hours. An overnight fast gives your dogs stomach time to recover.

Bland Diet: After the period of fasting, feed the dog a bland diet consisting of boiled rice and chicken or boiled rice and hamburger. Chicken should be fed only after taking off the skin and make sure the hamburger is fat free before serving it to the dog. Make sure that you serve the food in small quantities and continue with the diet till the vomiting subsides.

Eating Grass: No I am not bonkers. Eating grass helps the dog vomit out the food and ease the symptoms of an upset stomach.

Avoid Dehydration: The constant vomiting and loose stool increase the odds of your dog becoming dehydrated. Fill its bowl with half water and half Gatorade or give it some Pedialyte to replace the electrolytes. A dog suffering from upset stomach should not be fed water continuously. This can only make the condition worse by increasing the vomiting. Check if your dog is getting dehydrated by lifting the skin on its shoulder and back. If it stays firm instead of flapping back, then you might need to consult a veterinarian for introduction of subcutaneous fluids.

Yogurt: Probiotic yogurt and cottage cheese contains bacteria that is quite effective in soothing the upset stomach and the irritated intestines.

Herbal Remedies: Herbal remedies are known to be effective in soothing the disgestive system and restore its balance. Some well-known herbal remedies include plantain, Podophyllum and Alchemilla vulgaris. While plantain is great for animals in hot weather, the others are suitable for animals suffering from upset stomach in hot weather.

While most mild cases of diarrhea and upset stomach can be cured in a few days with these simple upset stomach remedies for dogs, remember that the vomiting and other symptoms can be the result of something serious. These serious issues can result in persistent symptoms which are extremely difficult to treat. So if the symptoms do not subside in a few days, it is a good idea to consult a veterinarian.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin on Dogs

Home Remedies for Dry Skin on Dogs

While your puppy or dog may be a playful little companion for you, and you probably believe that having a pet is all fun and games, the truth is even this little one is prone to its own set of problems and illnesses. Among the many problems that afflict dogs is that of dry skin. It may be manageable in the initial stages, but later gets worse when the itching sets in due to skin problems. Dry skin usually indicates a problem with your dogs health, that most probably, it is not getting the nutrients it requires for healthy skin. Another reason that may contribute to dry skin on your dog is that you are over bathing it. The chemicals in the shampoos, etc. that you use to clean your dogs may strip their skin off its natural moisture, thereby, leaving it dry. Fortunately, these conditions can be remedied at home by following some simple steps.

Home Remedies

The following remedies are suitable when the condition is not too serious. If you find that your dogs skin is too dry and is becoming itchy, visit the vet immediately, who will then treat it with appropriate medication.
  • Use a special shampoo meant for dry skin on dogs. Just like our skin is prone to drying out in winters, so is the case with dogs. As such, in the winters, dont bathe your dog too often, and use a shampoo that has been specifically made for dogs with dry skin. This will ensure that its skin does not dry out as much.
  • Pet your dog often. Petting your dog often will promote the circulation of natural oils in the dogs skin, that will then keep the skin moisturized. Alternately, you may also brush your dogs coat often to ensure this circulation. Brushing will also get rid of the flaky skin and promote the development of healthy new skin.
  • Improve your dogs diet. As mentioned earlier, more often than not, dog health problems emerge from a poor diet. Thus, give your pet high-grade dog food that is meant to improve its overall health, and the quality of its skin and coat. It has been found that adding a teaspoon of olive oil or flaxseed oil to your dogs food will treat dry skin on dogs belly and every other body part, and make it healthy. Flaxseed oil consists of omega 3 essential fatty acids that are a good nutrient for healthy skin.
  • Try an oatmeal bath. Dog health experts suggest that soaking your dog in colloidal oatmeal while bathing, for about 15 minutes, will relieve the itchy skin that is most often the result of dry skin.
  • Tackle the source of dry skin. Sometimes dry skin in dogs is caused due to parasitic infestations. For instance, if you notice dry skin on dogs ears, it is probably ear mites in dogs that are causing the itching and the associated dry skin. Use some mineral oil dipped in a cotton ball on the affected area to get rid of the ear mites and relieve the itching and dry skin temporarily.
  • Use olive oil on the affected area. Many a time you will notice dry skin on a localized patch and nowhere else on its body. For instance, a lot of people have noticed dry skin on dogs nose without a trace of any other illness. This can be treated simply by applying a swab of cotton lightly dipped in olive oil on the affected area, as many times as required, to treat it.
If these home remedies do not work, visiting your vet is your best option. In some cases, dry skin may be a symptom of some other health condition your pet may be afflicted with. Further, too much dry skin attracts fleas and other insects that only worsen the condition. As such, treat the condition as soon as you notice these problems, either with the aforementioned home remedies, or by consulting the vet.

Low blood pressure Symptoms of Low blood pressure Home remedies of Low blood pressure

Low blood pressure Symptoms of Low blood pressure Home remedies of Low blood pressure

Low blood pressure (hypo tension) is the pressure of the blood in the arteries. It occurs when the pressure of the blood is abnormally low. Blood pressure is typically recorded as the systolic pressure (as the heart beats) over the diastolic pressure (time between two beats). A consistent blood pressure reading of 90/60 mm Hg or lower is considered low blood pressure. People with low BP may experience symptoms of dizziness or syncope (fainting) as the blood flow to the brain and other vital organs becomes insufficient.

Blood pressure is basically a measurement of the pressure exerted by blood flow on the walls of the arteries, as it is pumped through the body to the various organs. While high blood pressure is quite well defined, low blood pressure is usually relative and not an absolute. While the normal measurement of blood pressure is 120/80 mm hg this level could vary quite widely among different individuals, and low blood pressure simply refers to the abnormality, where the blood pressure of the person is much lower than the normal. Low blood pressure symptoms include fatigue, headaches, dizziness or light headiness, because of oxygen deprivation. This is because the reduced blood flow causes a poor supply of oxygen to the brain and other vital organs of the body.

The main dangers of low blood pressure stem from an inability of the heart to pump adequate blood to the various organs of the body. As a result the organs cannot function properly and there could be temporary or even permanent damage to the organs. Low blood pressure problems will generally manifest some symptoms.

An impaired blood flow to the coronary arteries, which are responsible for supplying blood to the heart muscles could cause a person to develop chest pain, symptomatic of angina, or the person could even experience a heart attack.

Kidney Damage or Failure: Reduced blood flow to the kidneys can impair their ability to eliminate wastes from the body, consequentially increasing the levels of these wastes and toxins in the blood. This can therefore create still more complications affecting various other organs of the body. This is the main danger of low blood pressure. Very low blood pressure levels or persistently low blood pressure levels could lead to rapid deterioration and failure of the vital organs like the heart, brain, lungs, livers and kidneys, leading to death.

Low blood pressure symptoms

The patient with chronic low blood pressure may complain of lethargy, weakness, fatigue, and dizziness.

Common Causes of Low Blood Pressure

Dehydration (due to sweating and/or diarrhea)

Medications (for high BP or other treatments)

Fill your bathtub with lukewarm water and add one kg of Epsom salt to it. Immerse yourself in the bath for 20 minutes, before going to bed. Take caution not to expose the body to a cold area after this.

People who have consumed alcohol heavily in their life are at an increased risk of suffering from liver problems, such as alcoholic liver disease.

Those who do not drink alcohol excessively may also experience a liver disease, known as a non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
It may range in severity, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the condition when there is an inflammation of the liver, which is really serious and might lead to cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease.
Statistics suggests that more than twenty percent of the population in the United States is affected by NAFLD, and 2-3 percent by NASH. In the case of NAFLD, patients do not have any symptoms or very little, such as weight loss, malaise, fatigue, and pain in the upper right abdomen.
NAFLD occurs in the case of fat accumulation in the liver, which is not a result of alcohol, but the reason may be malnutrition, insulin resistance, rapid weight loss, diabetes, high cholesterol, viral hepatitis, and some medications like aspirin, diltiazem, corticosteroids, amiodarone, tetracycline, or antiviral drugs.
The treatment of NASH and NAFLD tends to remove the potential causes, or risk factors, like weight loss, stopping the use of drugs, or diabetes control.
Drug treatments have been shown to fail to treat the issue but include ursodeoxycholic acid, glucagon, metformin, glutamine infusion, and metronidazole.
Moreover, there are natural treatments for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which have provided excellent effects, such as:

-Low-glycemic diet
In order to treat and prevent this disease, it is of great help to avoid high-glycemic-index (GI) foods, as they raise blood sugar levels, like brown rice, potatoes, watermelon, and processed foods such as beer,  chocolate bars, and sweetened cereals.
A 2008 study published in the Canadian Journal of Gastroenterology showed that sugar leads to NAFLD, and 80percent  of NAFLD patients consumed sufficient amounts of juices and soft drinks that equaled 12 teaspoons of sugar.
Therefore, you should consume low GI foods, like onions, apples, garlic, eggs, legumes, pears, artichokes, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, carrots, and green leafy vegetables.

-Exercise
One of the most effective treatments for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is weight loss. According to a systematic review published in the Journal of Hepatology in 2012, exercise is an inexpensive and effective therapy for NAFLD.
Namely, this review involved 12 studies that examined the effects of aerobic exercise and progressive resistance training in the case of a non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in adults.
40 minutes of moderate to intense aerobic exercise for 5 days in a week effectively helps in the treatment of this disease, as it will enhance the liver quality and balance enzyme values.

-Flaxseed
Flaxseed contains phytoconstituents which effectively prevent harmful hormones straining the liver.
The journal Lipids in Health and Disease published a 2013 study which indicated that the mixture of flaxseed oil and alpha-lipoic acid improve the function of the liver and prevent fat accumulation and oxidative stress, so it protects from this disease.
For best effects, in order to preserve the freshness of flaxseed oil, and avoid rancidity, you should ground it using a coffee grinder. Then, you can add it to your salads.

-Dandelion
Dandelion leaf or root (Taraxacum officinale) is an extremely beneficial as it enhances liver functions and cleanses it in the cleanses it in the case of NAFLD. It purifies and metabolizes the fat deposited in the liver.
The journal Food and Chemical Toxicology published a study which discovered that the extract of dandelion leaf prevent and treat obesity-related NAFLD, and efficiently reduces the accumulation of fat in the liver and lowers insulin resistance.
The tea of dandelion root is of great help in this case. You should add a teaspoon in a cup of boiling hot water, cover and steep for 10 minutes. Then, strain and drink a cup of it 3 times a day for 3 weeks.

-Cilantro
Cilantro or coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is an effective herbal treatment, which is high in antioxidants and has powerful antihyperglycemic effects. It provides great effects in the case of liver issues, and conditions linked to NAFLD, especially diabetes.

-Amla or Indian gooseberry
Indian gooseberry (Emblica Officinalis), or amla, Amalaki fruit, is a popular herb in the Ayurvedic medicine, that has powerful rejuvenating properties and is extremely useful in treating fatty liver disease and diabetes.
It is rich in antioxidants which support the function of the liver, such as ellagic acid, vitamin C, corilagin, gallic acid, and gallotannin. It has also been found to help in the case of hepatotoxin-induced liver inflammation, which is a common symptom of NASH.

-Milk thistle
Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is believed to be one of the most beneficial herbal remedies to prevent NAFLD and improve the function of the liver. Its flavonoids prevent liver damage, detox the body, and raise the levels of glutathione in the liver.
Glutathione is an essential component for a low function of the liver in the case of NAFLD.
Research has also shown that it is also beneficial for various other liver ailments, like cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatitis, viral hepatitis, and chemical toxicity. Experts recommend drinking of 900 milligrams twice daily with meals.

-Licorice root
Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is very useful in the treatment of NAFLD. It is also commonly used in the Ayurvedic medicine. The journal Phytotherapy Research published a double-blind, randomized study in 2012, who found that the extract of licorice root greatly reduced liver enzymes in 66 patients with NAFLD.
You should pour boiling water over a teaspoon of licorice root powder, let it steep for 10 minutes, strain and enjoy your licorice root tea 1-2 a day.

-Cinnamon
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum seylanicum) is a warming herb which aids digestion and supports liver health. Nutrition Research published a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 2014, which involved 50 NAFLD patients who randomly took either two capsules of cinnamon or two placebo capsules daily, for 3 months. Researchers found that the consumption of 1500 milligrams of cinnamon on a daily basis improves NAFLD.

-Turmeric
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has an extremely beneficial active component, curcumin, which effectively treats liver diseases and jaundice. This amazing spice also lowers the inflammation, oxidative stress, changes fat metabolism, and improves insulin sensitivity, so it reduces liver injury and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Moreover, it efficiently treats liver cancer, known as hepatocarcinoma, and liver fibrosis. You can prepare a turmeric tea, or simply add it to your meals, and enjoy its health benefits.
Here we will suggest some effective ways to prevent liver disease in a completely natural, and safe way. These tips will also be of great help in the case of a liver transplant:

Limit the intake of saturated fat: You should focus on a diet high in whole foods and nutrients, in order to strengthen the immune system and prevent liver disease.

Avoid alcohol: You should avoid alcohol consumption even if you suffer from the non-alcoholic variety of the disease. Note that some drugs and cough syrups also contain alcohol.

Avoid processed foods:  Processed foods and ingredients like corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are extremely harmful. HFCS creates uric acid that leads to high blood pressure, liver damage, and gout.
Furthermore, GMO foods like corn damage the good gut bacteria and impede digestion, which destroys the proper function of the liver.

Avoid harmful drugs: Your liver may also be damaged by the use of excessive amounts of acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Pregnancy precaution: It is recommended that women who had a liver transplant should avoid pregnancy for at least 1 year after it, and should avoid breastfeeding due to possible risks of the baby to be exposed to immunosuppressive medicines through the milk.

Undergo liver enzyme tests: It is advisable that you do liver enzyme tests if you have fatty liver disease.
Avoid receiving live virus vaccines: Note that people who have undergone a liver transplantation ought not to receive live virus vaccines.
Moreover, there are also some natural remedies which have proved to be extremely helpful in the case of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, including carnitine, green tea, folic acid, betaine, bile salts, choline, vitamin E, papaya, vitamin B6, grape seed extract, vitamin B12, barberry, vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), ginger, pine bark extract, S-Adenosyl methionine (SAM-e), cascara sagrada, southern ginseng, and goldenseal.
