Hardys 16 months old now what does that mean

Hardys 16 months old now what does that mean

Hardy just turned 16 months old and is headed towards sexual maturity. Hes gone through a couple brief fear periods before but apparently has now hit another one that is late onset and more severe. This has manifested itself with him reacting to things that have never bothered him before - unusual noises and changes in his environment. His most annoying manifestation has to do with the doorway to our bedroom. We put a gate up to keep the Labs in or out and Im sure that at one time awhile ago when it was leaning in the doorway, it fell when Hardy was going past it. But that has never bothered him until now ... suddenly, he wont go through or past the doorway by himself! Sometimes you have to go through or past it with him and sometimes you can call him. Other doorways dont bother him; just the one, but it is still a nuisance. We will work through it but we are also working hard to keep him out of situations which might frighten him. And of course, since we dont know what he will react to, that can be challenging. In all other ways he continues to be a calm, bomb-proof young man with a lovely, kind temperament.
Weve been working on naming objects, retrieving specific items and carrying things. Hardy has no qualms about carrying items made of any type of material. He picks up his metal bowl for me which is nice! Weve been using the book, The Clicked Retriever by Lana Mitchell, which has been very helpful!
On a lighter note, we spent the weekend at our first AKC Agility trials. Laurel and I were entered in Novice A Jumpers with Weaves & Standard. Hardy came along for the ride. Hardy was wonderful! We had him in a soft side crate for the first time at a trial. He just calmly handled everything - all the other (and in some cases, crazed) dogs, the people, being in a crate for 90% of the time and being all by himself some. He got lots of compliments for his looks and excellent behavior!
Although I was really nervous about our first venture into AKC agility, Laurel and I had a blast! I thought the courses were fun, fair and reasonable! In our favor, each of the JWW courses began with a tunnel (which meant no start line stay and allowed me to catch up with Laurel by the 2nd obstacle). From her point of view, this was a class created just for her - jumps, lots of jumps, weaves and tunnels (all of her favorite things!) We Qd with a first place in JWW each of the 3 days which meant that Laurel went home with the title of NAJ (and no, I dont know what that stands for - maybe Novice Agility Jumpers?)
We also tried Standard, which features jumps, weaves, tunnels, the pause table, & 3 contacts (dog walk, A-Frame & teeter totter). The first day, I made mistakes outside the ring prior to even beginning the course. I brought Laurel out of her crate and over to the other side of the building (where the Standard ring was) too early; thought I knew what dog we were after, got Laurel all ready and finished up her treats only to discover there was another dog before us. It didnt help that the dog was a very frantic, excited Border Collie who barked the entire time. We were right up at the gate (like we were supposed to be) and poor Laurel started bouncing and whining. I knew I had lost her before we got in the ring. Ive seen the video and it doesnt look nearly as bad as it felt but I hated to know that she was feeling stressed and anxious when we were doing something that is just for fun. We didnt Q because Laurel jumped off the A-Frame without touching the yellow contact area on the bottom part. The next 2 days Standard runs were much better and more fun for both of us but Laurel continued to avoid the yellow portion of the A-Frame so no Qs there. However, seeing the photos and videos of her going around each course with a big smile on her face and a very waggy tail makes it all worth while! I hope Hardy develops that same love for our favorite fun activity!
Although these were definitely "dog activities" and not "working ones" for either Labrador, Laurel continued to do any task I asked of her and alerted for muscles spasms while we were there. Hardy is beginning to catch on to tasks when we are out and about but this was a very crowded, distracting place for him to practice and I was pleased with his progress. Also, Sunday night, Hardy woke me with an alert & was persistent in not letting me go back to sleep. I went out to the family room and he can and lay on the floor next to me. I believe that was the first time he has awakened me to alert (I dont need them that often and Laurel has always covered it), so Im very proud of my young man! Great job, Labradors!

Oh Its not that bad Maybe Part 2

Oh Its not that bad Maybe Part 2

They say the first step to a problem is recognizing you have it. What happens when you recognize it and you still dont do anything about it?

I mean... Dont get me wrong. We dont live in squalor. We dont let things get unlivable. We scrub our toilets. We vacuum. Dust. Fix the pillows on the couch. We wash dishes and clean out the fridge. It all gets done, one way or another. Laundry, too.

The problem is that it is done with such... disdain. We do it cause we ought to, not because we want to. Not because we were blessed with this house, this stuff, this family, and we should take care of it. We should literally treat these as our prize possessions because they are. We dont deserve any of it. We are so rich, so incredibly rich, in the grand scheme of life. We should be praising God, taking care of the things we are blessed to buy. Dusting our Comcast box and BluRay DVD player with great joy because we dont have to have these items. But we do.

We generally are just like crap, we have so many things, everywhere. This is not okay. I can hear my oldest sister in my head, "Here Megan, here are some piles. Just put everything in these piles away where they go."

I look at the piles and think, I dont know where this goes. For example, hats. Beanies. Gloves? Where do those go? How about gift bags? Or the tissue paper that you use to hide the contents of said gift bag? What about the packaging that the BluRay player comes in? or the manuals for the electronics or kitchen appliances? Where do you put all of the random odds and ends? Things you cant really get rid of but that you dont use all the time?

I dont get it. So stuff just kind of gets shoved places. When that drawer/cabinet/shelf gets full and we go through it we are left with the same questions. Where, for the love of God, does this crap GO? We throw it away. A month or two or five goes by and we spend forever looking for whatever weve thrown away and end up going to buy another one.

Not only is this a frustrating practice but it is also probably the stupidest thing Ive ever heard. What a waste. It irritates me that I can keep up with a pretty chaotic day job and yet matters of the home completely boggle my ever-lovin mind.

I have a specific example. Want to hear it? Christmas was just here a month and some change ago and we use a fake tree. We will until Shepherd gets old enough to have the experience of picking out a tree. What you lack, with a fake tree, is that wonderful pine smell. Isnt that just the best? It is. I know. I have to have it. Enter, the pine smelling candle. Second best thing to a real tree. I have the candle, I can see it right now, from where I sit on the floor of the living room and there is about...an inch/inch and a half or so left in jar.

AN INCH. Give or take.

What in Sam Hill do I do with the candle? Do I pack it up with the rest of the winter straggler stuff for next year? Do I burn it even though its February and thats really weird? Do I throw it out? Are you reading this, wondering what the heck is wrong with me because this really isnt a big deal?

To me, to my whacked out, totally jacked up brain, I dont know what to do with it. Honestly. So I do nothing. Its just sitting there. It has stockings on the label.

The fact that this situation which, logically, I know is so low on the importance scale that it doesnt even warrant the time to ponder these questions and yet I choose to just leave it there speaks volumes of my mental state. Now, apply this situation to pretty much every single thing that happens in my life and you have a glimpse of what I deal with.

Ill tell you what else. I feel sad for the candle. I feel sad for whatever stuffed animal Cali has torn apart when I throw it away. Even for the box that holds my Amazon goodies. Goodbye, box. We dont need you anymore. I genuinely feel bad for throwing away a box.

Guys. I need help. Between not knowing what to do and having feels for inanimate objects, I think I might have mental problems. To my credit, I never stop myself from throwing away a box just because Im sad that it has served my purpose and Im done with it. Once I make the decision (however long that takes me) to toss something out I dont unmake it. I dont hoard. I might hold on to things a shy too long but I dont have closets full of crap that I call my friends. Im not that crazy. In fact, when we start to clean, Im suddenly the trash it monster! Ill just throw away everything. This lamp? I dont need this stupid lamp. GET RID OF IT. This couch? Pfft. PUT IT ON THE CURB. I dont want to keep anything. I want everything gone. Give it away! These pictures from formal 2003? TOSS EM. I dont know where to put them and I need less of everything everywhere.

This cant be good. I am 98% sure that others do not think or behave like I do. I also dont know how to think like normal people. I used to think it was an age thing.

"Im 17. Of course my room is dirty with clothes everywhere! When Im 20 Ill have my crap together."

"Im 20! I change outfits like 40 times a day. Once for work, once for after work, once for cozy clothes, once for actual pajamas. I dont have time to hang them back up because I have to go shopping for more clothes."

"Im 22! And married! A lot of mail comes to your house when you own things and there are lots of bills and twice as much laundry. Ill open these envelopes when Im 25 and never wear clean jeans again! Im young and in love!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Im 26 and I still dont open the mail or listen to my voice mail or wear clean pants because I cant."

Obviously, I do. Eventually. Ill drag my feet for as long as I possibly can and then when I know that I have to put some effort into being a normal adult I do what needs to be done. I just dont understand why it takes me so long to do it. Why do I leave the candle there when it is done serving its purpose? Why dont I deep clean and then maintain so that the next deep clean doesnt make me want to hide in a dark closet for the rest of my life?

Why do I let things go until it gets so bad that getting up out of bed in the morning is daunting?

I dont know how to be better. I dont know how to juggle all of the responsibilities of life. So... I just fake it.

Small Dogs that Dont Bark

Small Dogs that Dont Bark

They are lovable, they are faithful and they are good companions - who am I talking about? Mans best friend - dogs of course! Yet, some people hesitate while keeping a pet dog, the reason being their loud and constant barking. Constant barking disturbs not only the owner of the dog, but also the entire neighborhood! But we should understand that barking is a way of communication for dogs. Though we consider all sounds of the dog as dog barking, there are different sounds which mean different things. E.g. dogs howl when they want to give a warning, and when their bark is long, it means they need company. Many of us prefer small dogs as they are easy to maintain and require less dog care. They also look cute when compared to big dogs. It is a misconception that dogs which are small in size bark less, although, there are certain types of dogs which are small, and also bark less.

7 Small Dogs that Dont Bark

Basenji: The nickname of this dog says it all - Basenji is called the barkless dog! Basenji is a small dog breed which is always alert. These dogs are considered unique as they do not bark, but are sometimes known to make yodeling sounds. The Basenji dog breed belongs to Africa and they are known for their elegance. They are not tall, but they are long and their tails are always in a tight curl. Unlike other dogs, Basenji dogs hate water! Also, if you want to make your barkless dog happy, bring home another Basenji, as they like company! Although these dogs have been used for hunting purposes, they also make good house pets.

Japanese Chin: The Japanese Chin is a cute and cuddly lap dog, also known as the Japanese Spaniel. These dogs look royal. In fact, it is said that these dogs were gifted to royal families in Japan. Japanese Chin dogs are very quiet. They bark only to alert their owner. These dogs like children, and are also very obedient. So Japanese Chin dogs also figure in the list of small dogs that dont bark. Japanese Chins are smart, friendly and simply love company! Another unique feature of Japanese Chins is that they show cat like behavior. Like cats, they prefer to sit on raised surfaces, and are also known to walk around stealthily just like cats!

French Bulldog: French bulldogs do not bark without a cause. They are small and serious looking dogs, just like other bulldogs. They also have large ears. French dogs are very entertaining, and hence are often referred to as clowns. A French bulldog will entertain you for hours, with its hilarious movements, like rolling and jumping. But contradictorily, they are also known to be stubborn dogs. So dog training might be a slightly uphill task, so take it easy. Also, these dogs tend to gain weight fast, so it is necessary for them to remain active.

Bull Terrier (Miniature): Miniature Bull terriers are different from the conventional bull terriers. They are smaller in size, and also a lot quieter than the bull terrier. Miniature bull terriers are short and thin, with a long face. It is a British dog breed. Bull terrier miniatures have short hair and so, dog grooming can be easily done with these dogs. Bull terriers are known to be courageous dogs who get very attached to their owners. If you have other pets, you need to be very firm with bull terriers, otherwise they can get very aggressive with other pets.

Havanese Dogs: Next on the list of small dogs that do not bark is the Havanese dog. Havanese are toy dogs. They look extremely cute and bark minimally. Even dog haters will fall in love with dogs after looking at Havanese dogs. They also get along well with other pets, including cats. Its quite easy to train a Havanese dog, and this is the reason they are seen widely in circuses. Havanese are very good watch dogs as well.

Schnauzer (Miniature): Schnauzer miniatures are short and sturdy dogs. Schnauzers are one of the best watchdogs. They have a lot of fur all over their body, especially around their face. Another unique feature of Schnauzers is that they are very active and intelligent. They are also perky and can invite trouble as they have a habit of challenging dogs who are a lot bigger than them! They like to please their owners and can also get possessive about them.

Bouvier des Flandres: Bouvier des Flandres is originally a Belgian dog. It is renowned as a watchdog, although it is very gentle in nature. Like Schnauzers, it also has a lot of fur on its body. Bouvier des Flandres have long necks which give them a giant look, though they are actually quite short. These dogs are very strong and are famous for their loyalty.

There are a few other dogs that dont bark, but they are not small in size. These include Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Clumber Spaniels etc. With so many varieties of small dogs that dont bark, you can choose a dog according to your liking. So, enjoy the company of your non-barking dog!

My kid is THAT kid

My kid is THAT kid

We enrolled the kiddos in swim lessons this summer and they started last night.

Tylers in the parent-child class so Joels been in the pool with him. Hes done ok in the class but gets pretty cold before his 30 minutes is up.  And hes not too interested in following directions (sound familiar?).

Lily on the other hand......yeah shes not that in to it. Last night she never cried but she just stubbornly sat on the side of the pool and didnt do ANYTHING.  They kept trying to encourage her but she just wasnt having it.

Tonight, before we ever left the house, she told me she didnt want to go.  "I dont like swimming."  Bull-larkey!  "You like swimming and I paid and youre going and its gonna be fun!"  Am I the stereotypical parent, or what?!

We got there and she proceeded to cry, scream even, for the next 25 minutes.  The other kids are like, "What is her DEAL???"  For the last 5 minutes, she did stop crying long enough to do ONE of the things they asked her to do.  Sigh.  Maybe tomorrow will be better.

In Lilys defense, sometimes shes a total rockstar in new situations.  Yesterday we made it back to the dentist for her first real appointment and she did awesome....The only thing she was a little skittish about was sitting in the chair by herself.  She sat on my lap while they cleaned and then checked her teeth.  But she did everything they asked her to do and was super cooperative.  Good girl!

15 Essential Qualities Of Relationships That Last

15 Essential Qualities Of Relationships That Last

15 Essential Qualities Of Relationships That Last

by Vishnu SubramaniamJune 10, 2016 5:16 AM

  • 447
Relationships can be difficult. Focusing on external qualifiers makes it even harder. But successful relationships require something much deeper than shared interests or physical attraction. Maintaining a healthy, happy relationship requires you to make daily choices that leave your ego behind and to act in the best interest of your relationship rather than just yourself.
Here are what I consider the 15 essential qualities of a lasting relationship:
1. Acceptance
Any partner will have qualities, characteristics, and behaviors that push your buttons and test your sanity. To make your relationship last, you have to accept your partner unconditionally—quirks, behavior, flaws, and all. First, you make the commitment to accepting them completely. Then, you speak up and say what it is that’s bothering you.
2. Respect
Once the chase is over and weve gotten the prize, we often just forget about our partners feelings and needs. In lasting relationships, both partners value each other and take care with their words, actions, and behaviors. If you want to be with that person each day, make them feel that way.
3. Vulnerability
If you’re not willing to share what’s going on with you or what you need from your partner, you’re not going to get what you need. Yet, us men, and women, too—out of shame or a habit built over a lifetime of bottling up our feelings—don’t want to let anyone else in on what’s going on with us. If you can trust your partner enough to share your feelings, you’re more likely to find yourself in a safe relationship that lasts.
/1339196/ClipCentric_Desktop_Inread_595x1
4. Trust
You have to be willing to trust your partner not only with your feelings but with your weaknesses. You will have to learn trust at the emotional, physical, and spiritual level. Trust takes practice and is earned one step at a time. Even when trust is broken, you can find a way to repair a breach in trust if you’re willing to work on it.
5. Honesty
You have to be willing to share what’s going on, no matter how ugly. You can’t hide behind lies and deception if you want your relationship to last. If you can’t believe your partner when they tell you something, or if your partner is hiding things from you, it’s going to be hard for you to feel safe. Honesty helps foster trust and a belief in each other, which is crucial to making it over the long haul.
6. Empathy
Empathy means trying to understand what your partner is feeling. It isn’t about trying to fix your partner’s concerns and problems, necessarily, but about being able to be there for them. If you can pay more attention to what’s going on with your partner and strive to see things from their eyes, you will find yourself getting closer over time rather than more distant.
7. Kindness
Do all the things for your partner that you would do for your best friend. Try to anticipate their needs. Think about what they need help with and try to be there for them. Cut out the behavior that gets on their nerves and find ways to uplift your partner. Thoughtfulness, consideration, and kindness is the recipe for lasting relationships.
8. Commitment
You have to be committed to your partner, yes. But more than commitment to your partner, you have to be committed to the relationship. If you think about the health and future of the relationship instead of just your own, you’re likely to take more constructive actions and behave differently. It’s not just about getting your needs met. Its about replenishing the fire so your relationship can last.
9. Thoughtfulness
Thoughtfulness is keeping your partner in mind and striving to do things that will make their lives better. It’s knowing their preferences, opinions, and quirks so you’re able to dance with them, not fight them with. The better you know your partner, the more you can practice thoughtfulness. What can you do today to help them or improve their lives? What can you do today to make your partner’s day?
10. Forgiveness
You will be offended and feel hurt many times throughout a relationship. The key is to forgive quickly, let go of grudges, and start over each day. Yes, this is easier said than done, but forgiveness is crucial to the long-term health of the relationship. You have to let go of trespasses and also be willing to ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness takes courage, vulnerability, and practice.
11. Compromise
It may sound clichéd, but giving up on firm positions, unbendable views of the world, and what you each want to do independently of the other person is another important step to lasting love. Our egos usually hold us hostage and we can’t get out of the “win-lose” mentality. Compromise is letting go of what’s important to you individually in order to do what is important to the health of the relationship. It’s finding common ground.
12. Gentleness
Gentleness comes through in thoughts, words, actions, and your general state of being. It’s understanding and accepting your partner completely and treating them delicately. It’s not yelling, not being verbally or emotionally abusive, or name-calling.
Gentleness is treating your partner in a respectful, kind, and compassionate way. It’s recognizing your soulful connection and appreciating their inherent humanness.
13. Affection
After some time in relationships, we often forget to show love and affection toward our partners. Affection can be as simple as touching, holding, or kissing your partner for no reason at all. It’s a warm embrace, a light touch, a loving word, or any other small way you can show your partner that you love them.
To be most affectionate, you have to know how your partner receives love best and do more of that. Is it a loving word, a thoughtful gesture, help around the house, or doing something special for them? The better you know what your partner enjoys, the more affectionate you can be. This Love Languages quiz can help you figure out how you and your partner can most effectively show your love to each other.
14. Appreciation
We all take our partners for granted sometimes. If you can regularly remind yourself how lucky you are and how valuable your partner is, and tell them so, you will boost the happiness and longevity of your relationship. Partners who stay together appreciate each other and compliment each other. Recognize what your partner is doing and let them know that you’re thankful for it.
15. Validation

Most of the time, people don’t really understand us. Everyone has different opinions. Validating your partner shows them that you’re on their side. When you understand and accept what they say, they feel fully seen, heard, and accepted. It’s acknowledging what your partner is saying to you and showing them that you get them—you understand what they’re saying and experiencing. When you validate, you accept. And when you accept, you show unconditional love, which is ultimately what keeps people and relationships together in the long run.

How to Treat Inflammation The 10 most powerful natural medicines that really work

How to Treat Inflammation The 10 most powerful natural medicines that really work

Herbs to treat inflammation: The 10 most powerful natural medicines that really work
Tuesday, December 02, 2014 by: Aurora Geib
Tags: inflammation, natural medicine, antioxidants

---------------------------- (NaturalNews) Oftentimes, the knee-jerk reaction of the medical community to inflammation is to dole out drugs to reduce it. In fact, there is a whole classification of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, available by prescription and over-the-counter. NSAIDs are associated with a variety of risks, according to new labeling by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (1), including an increased risk for cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke.

Fortunately, you can use herbs for inflammation instead of dangerous drugs.

#1 Black Pepper
People refer to black pepper as the King of Spices because of its intoxicating, rich aroma and complex flavor. Black pepper owes its distinctive pungent flavor to piperine, which also provides an astonishing anti-inflammatory effect. Piperine inhibits the expression of a gene associated with arthritis and the spread of cancer, MMP13. Even at low doses, piperine reduces inflammation by depressing prostaglandin production. Furthermore, piperine significantly suppresses the perception of pain (2) and arthritis symptoms while decreasing inflammation in joints.

#2 Cardamom
As the Queen of Spices, cardamom also reduces inflammation. Part of the ginger family, cardamom is native to India and Sri Lanka; healers there have used cardamom to reduce inflammation for centuries.

#3 Cayenne
Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin. Exposure to capsaicin causes body tissues to release substance P, which your body usually releases immediately after tissue damage. Capsaicin does not actually damage tissue -- this chemical only tricks your body into acting as if damage had occurred.

Repeated exposure of one part of your body to capsaicin will deplete that area of its substance P, which increases tolerance to capsaicin in people who regularly eat hot peppers.

Reducing substance P in one area of your body also decreases your sense of pain in that part. Capsaicin cream products take advantage of this effect to reduce arthritis pain in joints and other sources of chronic pain. Best of all, the capsaicin in cayenne pepper can help protect your stomach (3) from ulcers associated with NSAID use.

#4 Chamomile
Ancient physicians Dioskurides, Galen and Plinius recommended tea to relieve inflammation of the mouth. Chamomile is a sun-loving plant whose flowers smell like fresh apples. Oil distilled from these flowers contain a-bisabolol and chamazulene cyclic sesquiterpenes, which directly reduce inflammation. Chamomile oil also contains bisabolol oxides, farnesene and spiro-ether that have anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties.

#5 Ginger
Traditional medicine has relied on gingers anti-inflammatory powers for centuries. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (4), there is also evidence that ginger eases pain associated with that classic inflammatory disease, arthritis. Additionally, ginger eases stomach upset, nausea and vomiting.

#6 Turmeric
Turmeric gives curry its flavor and yellow color; food manufacturers also add turmeric to butter and cheese for color. Healers have used turmeric for more than 4,000 years to relieve inflammation, treat digestive problems and fight infections.

The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is an antioxidant that removes dangerous free radicals from the body. Free radicals cause cell damage that leads to inflammation, including damage to cell membranes, negatively affect DNA and cause cells to die. Additionally, turmeric lowers two types of enzymes known to cause inflammation.

#7 Aloe
Aloe not only reduces inflammation but also eases pain and promotes skin repair and healing. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, the anti-inflammatory effects of aloe gel are superior to 1 percent hydrocortisone cream.

#8 Celery seed
Celery seed works to reduce inflammation by acting as a diuretic, which means it helps the body get rid of excess fluid by increasing urine output. Celery seed is especially effective in treating inflammation caused by arthritis and gout, a type of arthritis.

#9 Green tea
Green tea contains polyphenols, micronutrients that work in the body to prevent certain disease mechanisms -- such as inflammation -- from happening. The main polyphenol in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. Together, EGCG and the other polyphenols in green tea have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.

Green tea is especially helpful in reducing inflammation in the digestive tract. This natural herb may reduce gastrointestinal inflammation associated with Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis. Green tea may also help with arthritis by reducing inflammation and slowing down cartilage destruction associated with the disease.

#10 Pomegranate
Pomegranates contain flavonols, a type of antioxidant, which seem especially helpful in reducing inflammation associated with osteoarthritis. In that condition, inflammation contributes to the destruction of cartilage. Pomegranate seems to block the production of an enzyme associated with cartilage destruction.

The next time you struggle with inflammation or the medical conditions caused by inflammation, try using an herbal remedy before resorting to dangerous drugs and chemicals. Herbs are highly effective in reducing inflammation and carry relatively low risks for complications.

Optometry A Profession That Has Everything

Optometry A Profession That Has Everything

I’ve been practicing optometry for nearly 32 years.  It’s a profession  that is quite dynamic,  Advances in the scope of practice that we’re able to offer our patients is great. We’re able to improve a child’s reading ability as well as help adults who view monitors all day making them more efficient and less visually fatigued.  We’re able to improve the sports performance of an athlete through improved vision skills.  We’re able to detect and treat many eye infections and diseases.
We’re able to possibly save a patient’s life through detection of certain visual problems as well as anatomical eye problems.  Please go to the “testimonial” section of my website, www.ranchoeyedoctor.com and view the letters.  Also, we could improve the ability for an individual to obtain a job where the employer thought he didn’t have the visual skills necessary. There’s a letter pertaining to this on the website.
The last area I want to discuss is the prescribing of glasses and contacts.  The area of cosmesis as well as the appropriate frame for a prescription comes into play.  Also contact lenses are such a dynamic part of our practice.
What’s really neat is when we thank our previous patients for returning.  A lot of times we’ll hear that they “love” coming to us.  I can’t think of too many professions where this is the case.

You Werk that Up Do!

You Werk that Up Do!

So, I was running late a week or two (?) ago and threw together this cute hairstyle. I had taken photos of it to share with my friend Denise, and since Im still working on a weekend recap for you, I figured Id share it.

I adore a red lip. Seriously. I loved my make-up that day. So natural but with bold eyebrows and bold lips. Totally effortless but always works! Anyways, thats it from the front. I did the twist braid on both sides, but somehow forgot to get a picture of the other side. Oh well.

Here is the side view. I wish I would have made the hair on top cover my scalp but eh. Whatever. I added a little headband that I made when I was making jewelry a bunch, for some added bling. Its obviously not revolutionary, but its easy, its quick, and its pretty. Bonus points if you curl your hair first!

I just threw this picture in because look at that winged eyeliner. Looooove it. The back of my hair is just gathered in a crapball. Yes, that is a technical term! This is a really easy hair-do for busy mornings! If you give it a shot, post it to Instagram and tag me, @meganlauriana!

9 Types of Cancer that can be killed by Cannabis Oil

May 25, 2016   Cannabis Oil
9 TYPES OF CANCER THAT CAN BE KILLED BY CANNABIS (HERE’S HOW)

Cannabis, also known as marijuana, is a plant grown in many parts of the world, and has been used for medicinal purposes dating back to ancient times. It produces a resin containing compounds called cannabinoids. These Cannabinoids are active chemicals in Cannabis that cause drug like effects throughout the body, including the central nervous system and the immune system. Some of these cannabinoids are psychoactive and act on the brain by changing mood or consciousness. Cannabinoids can be taken by mouth, inhaled, or sprayed under the tongue.
Studies of The Therapeutic Properties Of Cannabis

  • Cannabis and cannabinoids have been studied in the laboratory and the clinic for relief of pain, nausea and vomiting, anxiety, and loss of appetite. Two cannabinoids (dronabinol and nabilone) are drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention or treatment of chemotherapy related nausea and vomiting.

  • However, the therapeutic potential of cannabis almost appears limitless, as it extends far beyond just relieving nausea or pain in the terminally ill. Christina Sanchez, a molecular biologist from Compultense University in Madrid, Spain, has been studying the molecular activity of cannabinoids for more than 10 years, and during this time she and her colleagues have learned that tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, induces tumor cell “suicide” while leaving healthy cells alone.
This discovery was pretty unexpected, as Sanchez and her team had actually been studying brain cancer cells for the purpose of better understanding how they function. During this process, they observed that when exposed to THC, tumoral cells not only ceased to multiply and proliferate but destroyed themselves, both in lab tests and animal trials. This was first reported on back in 1998, and published in a paper on the anti-cancer effects of THC in the European biochemistry journalFEBS Letters.
The Human Body is Designed to Utilize Cannabis Compounds
Research in the 1980s revealed that the human body contains two specific targets for THC. There is a framework known as the endocannabinoid system, that processes THC and other cannabinoids, along with containing various cannabinoid receptors throughout the body that utilize them. Together, these two natural systems allow the body to benefit from the cannabinoids found in cannabis, some of which aren’t found anywhere else in nature. The endocannabinoid system regulates a lot of biological functions: appetite, food intake, motor behavior, reproduction, and many, many other functions. And that’s why the plant has such a wide therapeutic potential.
Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids help to inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow larger. Laboratory and animal studies have gone on to show that cannabinoids can kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.

    Brain Cancer Benefits
    • A study published in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics outlines how brain tumors are highly resistant to current anticancer treatments, which makes it crucial to find new therapeutic strategies aimed at improving the poor prognosis of patients suffering from this disease.
    • A study published in the British Journal of Cancer, conducted by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Complutense University in Madrid, determined that THC and other cannabinoids inhibit tumor growth. THC was found to decrease tumour cells in two out of the nine patients, and the delivery was safe and was achieved with zero psychoactive effects.
    • A study published in The Journal of Neuroscience examined the biochemical events in both acute neuronal damage and in slowly progressive, neurodegenerative diseases. They looked at THC and found that it reduced neuronal injury in rats, and provide evidence that the cannabinoid system can protect the brain against neurodegeneration.
    • A study published in The Journal of Pharmacology And Experimental Therapeutics already acknowledged the fact that cannabinoids have been shown to possess antitumor properties. This study examined the effect of cannabidiol (non psychoactive cannabinoid compound) on human glioma cell lines (Glioma is the word used to describe brain tumor). The addition of cannabidiol led to a dramatic drop in the viability of glioma cells, the study concluded that cannabidiol was able to produce a significant antitumor activity.
    Breast Cancer Benefits
    • A study published in the US National Library of Medicine, conducted by the California Pacific Medical Centre determined that cannabidiol (CBD) inhibits human breast cancer cell proliferation and invasion. They also demonstrated that CBD significantly reduces tumor mass.
    • A study published in The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics determined that THC as well as cannabidiol dramatically reduced breast cancer cell growth.
    • A study published in the Journal Molecular Cancer showed that THC reduced tumor growth and tumor numbers. They determined that cannabinoids inhibit cancer cell proliferation, induce cancer cell apoptosis and impair tumor angiogenesis (the creation of new blood vessels), providing strong evidence for the use of cannabinoid based therapies for the management of breast cancer.
    • A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) determined that cannabinoids inhibit human breast cancer cell proliferation.
    Lung Cancer Benefits
    • A study published in the journal Oncogene, by Harvard Medical Schools Experimental Medicine Department determined that THC inhibits epithelial growth factor induced lung cancer cell migration and more. They go on to state that THC should be explored as novel therapeutic molecules in controlling the growth and metastasis of certain lung cancers.
    • A study published by the US National Library of Medicine, conducted by Harvard Medical School investigated the role of cannabinoid receptors in lung cancer cells. They determined its effectiveness and suggested that it should be used for treatment against lung cancer cells.
    • A study published by the US National Library of Medicine by the Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology, from the Department of General Surgery in Germany determined that cannabinoids inhibit cancer cell invasion. Effects were confirmed in primary tumor cells from a lung cancer patient.  Overall, data indicated that cannabinoids decrease cancer cell invasiveness.
    Prostate Cancer Benefits
    • A study published in the US National Library of Medicine outlined multiple studies proving the effectiveness of cannabis on prostate cancer.
    • A study published in the US National Library of Medicine illustrates a decrease in prostatic cancer cells by acting through cannabinoid receptors.
    • Another study published by the US National Library of Medicine determined that clinical testing of CBD against prostate carcinoma is a must, as cannabinoid receptor activation induces prostate carcinoma cell apoptosis (cell death).
    Blood Cancer Benefits
    • A study published in the US National Library of Medicine conducted by the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology by Virginia Commonwealth University determined that cannabinoids induce apoptosis in leukemia cells.
    • A study published in the journal Molecular Pharmacology recently showed that cannabinoids induce growth inhibition and apoptosis in mantle cell lymphoma. The study was supported by grants from the Swedish Cancer Society, The Swedish Research Council and the Cancer Society in Stockholm.
    • A study published in the International Journal of Cancer also determined and illustrated that cannabinoids exert antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects in various types of cancer and in mantle cell lymphoma.
    Liver Cancer Benefits
    • A study published by the US National Library of Medicine determined that that THC reduces the viability of human HCC cell lines (Human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line) and reduced the growth.
    Pancreatic Cancer Benefits
    • A study published in The American Journal of Cancer determined that cannabinoid receptors are expressed in human pancreatic tumor cell lines and tumor biopsies at much higher levels than in normal pancreatic tissue. Results showed that cannabinoid administration induced apoptosis. They also reduced the growth of tumor cells, and inhibited the spreading of pancreatic tumor cells.
    Oral Cancer Benefits
    • A study published by the US National Library of Medicine results show cannabinoids are potent inhibitors of cellular respiration and are toxic to highly malignant oral Tumors.
    Colon Cancer Benefits
    • A study in mice showed that cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of theColon and have some potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer.
    Aids Chemotherapy
A laboratory study of cannabidiol (CBD) in human glioma cells showed that when given along with chemotherapy, CBD made the chemo more effective, and increased cancer cell death without harming the normal cells. Studies in mouse models of cancer showed that CBD together with delta-9-THC may make chemotherapy such as temozolomide more effective.

    Other Effects of Cannabinoids Include:

    • Anti-inflammatory activity
    • Antiviral activity
    • Relieving muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis
