Reading writing and arithmetic

Reading writing and arithmetic

Matthew came home from school on Friday with a "Gwaith Da" (Good Work) certificate for his number work.  It turns out that he had done well at mathematics, particularly adding up.

He has continued to get a new book to read every week since Christmas, and has now reached the middle of level 2 in the Welsh reading book series the school use.  At home, were making some progress teaching him to read English, although he doesnt read every night.  He can read quite a few basic words, like "the", "and", "to" etc., but has struggled with "you" (the sounds being different to those he understands in Welsh).

Matthew has also impressed us with his writing this weekend.  He wanted to write a "story" so he told me what he wanted to write and I spelled the words for him.  Apart from some confusion over the letter "p", he did very well.  The story was a little bizarre though - "once upon a time, Donatello (from the Ninja Turtles) did an invention (to) suck up baddies"!
