Caves and dinosaurs
Caves and dinosaurs
As Im off work for a couple of weeks, today we took Matthew to Dan Yr Ogof caves and dinosaur park (Daniel spent the day with his Grandma as pushchairs were not advised!).
Unfortunately the weather wasnt great and we did get rather wet to start with walking around the park to get to the caves. Matthew wasnt sure what to make of the caves, and was a bit scared by the audio commentary being played throughout the caves on loudspeakers in the background. After a nervous start when he wanted to go back, we managed to persuade him to continue and he did seem to enjoy it more after a while. The second cave, the Cathedral cave, was by far the most spectacular with a large waterfall at the end. Although Matthew had become used to the commentary, he was scared at the entrance to the Cathedral cave by a sudden, loud noise on the audio which seemed a little pointless. By the end of the cave he seemed to be enjoying himself, however. The third cave was very small and proved disappointing as there was a long flight of stairs to reach the entrance.
Matthew enjoyed seeing the dinosaurs and seemed able to read enough of the signs to tell which was which (either that, or hes very good at remembering their names). The weather improved after lunch and we were able to see most of the dinosaurs before leaving, although not in any great detail. Matthew also had a go at dusting for relics in the fossil hut.
The gift shop was impressively stocked and Matthew came away with a mechanical chomping dinosaur, and a plastic toy dinosaur. We bought Daniel a soft triceratops as a gift. Louise and I unfortunately succumbed to the joy of brightly coloured mineral stone ornaments, but they will at least be an interesting feature in our recently decorated bedroom (before you say anything, I am actually entitled to sound old now I am 36).
