Matthew is 6

Matthew gets ready to blow out the candles on his Turtle cake |
Matthew celebrated his birthday yesterday and has now reached the age of 6! As it was on a Friday, he had to go to school breakfast club because Louise had worked overnight and I had to get work. Louise stayed up to wish Matthew a happy birthday before going to bed, and he was allowed to open one of his gifts before school. After school, Gramps came over and I was also able to finish work slightly earlier, so we all had a McDonalds (even Daniel, who just had unsalted chips).
Matthew had Scooby Doo figures, some jigsaws, some Lego and a Lego book, and some more Ninja Turtle bad guys for his birthday this year. He also had the Moshi Monsters Movie DVD from Daniel, which he watched last night.
Although he was well behaved on his birthday yesterday, Matthew has been moody all week. I suppose having your birthday the same week as going back to school is really too much in one week, as weve had problems with Matthew before at this time of the year, especially after he first started school - he didnt seem so bad last year, but then he was in the same Reception class then.
Matthew is still adjusting to life in Year 1 and, although he initially enjoyed it, he doesnt like the fact he now has more homework - he now has two books a week, for example. Hes also noticed that there are less toys and opportunities to play.
Today, Matthew has been particularly grumpy (I hesitate to say naughty, as although he has been rude and unco-operative, he hasnt physically done much wrong). He refused to brush his teeth, and even after I persuaded him to do so, told me he "hadnt done it well". He also refused to come out with us this morning and it took a lot of persuading to try and get him to come.
