Lets see now where was I
Lets see now where was I
The kiddos were invited to a birthday party for a pair of sisters at the daycare (one in Lilys class and one in Tylers class). It was at the gymnastics center and the kids had never been there before. They had a GREAT time.

Tyler is really bad at sleeping. He just doesnt seem to understand that needs to stay in bed until 6:00am. We are all over the place with this guy. Some nights hes up at 1 or 2am and typically screaming for his Daddy, waking up the whole house. He often yells until Joel comes in to put him back to bed. Sometimes he lets me. And then, regardless of whether he gets up in the middle of the night, he also often gets up by 5am. And then we wrestle again to try to get him to stay in bed until 6am. Sometimes he complies and sometimes he just throws a ginormous fit. We do typically hold firm though and dont allow him to watch TV or eat breakfast until 6. One day, recently, he got up and came out to the living room and then snuggled up on his Daddys lap and promptly fell back to sleep.

This girl fixed her own hair. Doesnt she look beautiful?

Sometimes these kiddos are so cute, playing together. Theres been several instances lately where Ive found them shut up in the playroom for 20 minutes, playing and laughing together and NOT FIGHTING and its amazing. Then other times (most times, if Im honest), one of them will be playing with something and the other one wants it and then they fight. In this case, Tyler was "fixing" his train with his tools and Lily wanted to fix it too. Well she was getting in Tylers way and Tyler was in her way and it resulted in Tyler karate chopping Lily on the head with a his plastic saw. And Joel stood back, silently, and caught the whole thing on video which we have since watched multiple times and laughed heartily.

It was the best of times it was the worst of times
It was the best of times it was the worst of times
This past weekend Canine Affair (our training hall) hosted a C-WAGS Obedience and Rally trial for which I served as the C-WAGS Advocate (or Representative). With the potential for hot weather and because I havent been working much to get ready, I wasnt sure Id be competing.
About 4 or 5 weeks ago, we found out that Brents father, who lives in St. Louis had inoperable (terminal) lung cancer and that he had 6-8 months to 1 year to live. At that point, he was living at home and had gone to see his doctor. When he was dissatisfied with what his doctor had to say, he decided he needed to go to the hospital. Once there, he was diagnosed with a very aggressive, untreatable cancer and it became quickly apparent that he would never go home again. Brents mother has been in a nursing home for about 10 years with advanced Alzheimers and he is an only child with a very small extended family that hasnt been close for many years. As a result, everything fell to Brent and suddenly we were trying to pay their bills, make living arrangements for his dad and take care of his mom. Unfortunately, his dads health declined quickly and two weeks ago, we were told he had 2-4 months left and he immediately went into hospice. Brent decided to spend a last fathers day with his dad so we made reservations for him to go there Friday (the 17th). He was scheduled to land at 8:00 in the morning but we got a call 5 hours before (at 3:00) letting us know that his dad had passed away peacefully in his sleep. Brent went there but instead of getting to see his dad, he had to make arrangements for his funeral, talk to the lawyer, go to the banks and the nursing home to see about his mom etc.
For all sorts of reasons, its been a stressful couple months for us and although Ive made time for continuing our service dog training, I havent been working on anything related to competition. Despite that, I decided on Saturday to try Level 1 Obedience with Hardy. Brent and I also used FaceTime to be together while making the funeral arrangements which made it an emotional day. Although we hadnt worked on all of the exercises, Hardy got one Q. On Sunday, I did Pro, Zoom 2 and ARF rally with Laurel and although she was worried about me, we got 3 Qs with 2 firsts & 1 second place. At the last minute, I decided to try Zoom 1 with Hardy. He was really on and we won the class with a 98/100! I have to admit that I was surprised and very proud of him! And he has requested that I not come out of the ring telling everyone how surprised I am when he does a good job! Funny boy!

And then there was August
And then there was August
We went camping in the backyard. The kids thought that was super cool. They enjoyed "playing house" in the tent. And smores. They did pretty good sleeping out there, once they fell asleep. Well Lily passed out immediately but Tyler was singing and yelling until about 10pm. No clue what got in to him, but he was wound up.
I ended up telling Joel he could go sleep inside as I wasnt in the mood to toss and turn on a half deflated air mattress with him all night. It was kind of chilly that night - probably about 62 degrees - and I think I was up every hour checking on the kids and making sure they were covered up.
August 3rd brought the first day of Pre-K for Lily in the O.W.L.s (One with the Lord) class.
And Tylers first day with the 3-year-old L.A.M.B.s (I forgot what it stands for, my bad). He was NOT in to getting his picture taken that morning.
Back yard shenanigans.
Holiday World.
Both kids rode the roller coaster and loved it.
We didnt get any pictures of the water park, but Lily had a blast. She was tall enough to ride all the good slides, including the water roller coasters. Unfortunately, Tyler was still a few inches too short so I stayed with him while Joel took Lily.
We pretty much closed down the water park and then hit up one more ride - the Tin Lizzies on the way out. Tyler couldnt make it. He ended up sleeping on Daddy while in line. But then perked right up when it was his turn to drive.
Lily learned how to swim. She does pretty good. Can even jump in the deep water and come up ok. She gets tired easily though so you have to stay right with her in deep water. If she starts to get tired, she panics and loses her breath and then panics some more and starts to go under.
Tyler is fearless when it comes to the water.
Belated birthday cake for Joel.
Tyler playing hookie, I mean sick day...
Anderson Falls. Just about 10 miles from our house.
Lily with her "curly" hair. Looking so grown up.
Tyler with a huge (dead) dragon fly.
Lilys turn to be sick - passed out on the couch before supper.
Lily asked me if she could make bracelets with her hair ties. Some of the older summer camp girls were doing that at daycare this summer. Shes all about it and pretty good at it. We have about a million bracelets laying around the house now. Oh and theres this super cute hair style I learned from Katie.
Tyler took a bath in the back yard. He thought it was hysterical.
We went canoeing. The kids did pretty alright for most of the 3+ hour trip. They got a big kick out of riding on the bus to the launch point. By the end, they were pretty crabby and fussing - griping at us and each other - making me wish we never went. But thats pretty much par for the course. And, if you think about it, they were confined to one spot for most of the time so pretty understandable that the natives got restless.
The kiddos helping with a side yard project.
Ice cream cones and swinging in the back yard.
Tyler sick day, part 2.
Kiddos playing at the playground and then meeting me at the Columbus airport after one of my trips to Minnesota. (Check out Lilys outfit. She picks her own clothes.)
