Eyeglass Lens Materials Comfort Cosmetics

Eyeglass Lens Materials Comfort Cosmetics

Ever wonder why your eyeglasses look thicker than other peoples? Or why you have red marks on your nose at the end of the day? Yes, it depends greatly on your personal Rx, but even with a more difficult Rx you can still choose the right frame and lenses to obtain greater comfort and cosmetics. Farsighted (+ Rx) patients have lenses with thicker centers. The stronger the prescription, the more the center of the lens bulges forward from the frame. These lenses give the wearer’s eye an unnaturally magnified “bug-eyed” look. While nearsighted (- Rx) patients have lenses with thicker edges. The stronger your prescription, the more edge thickness. This makes the lens highly visible in the frame. These lenses make the wearer’s eye look smaller, and have a “beady-eyed” appearance. Even your frame choice is important to the cosmetics of your lenses.

Most of today’s frames are made of plastic or metal with rims thinner than the lens itself. Also, popular rimless mountings mean that the lens edges are completely exposed. In either case, the lens edges are highly visible, and thicker edges can detract from the appearance of your eyewear.

For those patients with a prescription over a 3.00 (+ or -) we recommend a high-index material. Some stores will inform you their lens is high-index but a lot of the time they are selling you polycarbonate. High-Index to us here at D’Ambrosio Eye Care is an aspheric design and this design adds to the ability to bend light more efficiently so it can be designed to be thinner, which requires less material which then also reduces the overall weight of the lens. Generally, the higher the index the more cost to the patient so we are careful to recommend the most suitable index.

High-Index 1.67 is the lens choice for rimless and semi-rimless frames because it drills with more success and is thinner for the higher prescriptions. In any frame we would recommend this lens if your Rx was over 3.00 to 5.00 because it will be up to 55% thinner and lighter than plastic.

Hi-Index 1.70 is recommended for single vision wearers with an Rx over 3.00, and will be up to 60% thinner and lighter than plastic. Hi-Index 1.74 is the highest lens on the current market and is up to 65% thinner and lighter than plastic and we recommend this lens when the Rx is over 5.00. All High-Index lenses should be paired with Crizal™ Avance with Scotchgard ™ Protector non-glare, most manufactures require non-glare as it improves the clarity of vision by reducing any reflections off the lens and also makes the lenses appear thinner, improving appearance.

Hautelook Haul The Balm Cosmetics And Skin Care

Hautelook Haul The Balm Cosmetics And Skin Care

A month or so ago, I placed an order on Hautelook when The Balm Cosmetics had a sale. I had wanted to try out a few of their products and I was almost out of face wash and make up remover so I justified trying out some new products.

I took all these pictures REALLY LATE AT NIGHT which is why I look like crap.

Obviously, I made Bryan take these ones. And when I went to upload them, look at what I find:

Google Auto #Hoffsome-d my pictures. Imagine my surprise when I see these. At first I thought Bryan did it and I was like Im gonna punch him. But no. It was Google. Totally cracked me up.

Here are pictures of the items I purchased and a quick description:

Included in the box where these Suave samples.

Really? AGAIN?! Hasselhoff must use Suave?

How the box looked. Wrapped quite nicely. I dig it.

From left to right: Bahama Mama Bronzer, TimeBalm White Tea Rose Face Cleanser, TimeBalm White Tea Carrot Eye Makeup Remover, Hot Mama Blush and Nudetude Palette.

Here are the same items unboxed.

TimeBalm White Tea Rose Face Cleanser - Ive used this cleanser a few times now and while Im definitely not in love with it by any means, I like it. Its really light and doesnt really foam at all. I used it last night with my Ulta brand face cleansing brush and in my opinion, feel like I got way more out of it that way. It has a nice rose smell that is not obnoxious.

TimeBalm White Tea Carrot Eye Makeup Remover - I actually thought I would really like this, since I used and loved the Yes! To Carrots eye makeup remover for years, but this formula is not a cream, its more of a liquid, but not necessarily an oil. It is actually kind of....stings. On the skin, it kind of tingles. Its not bad, but it verges on bad. It works really well on removing eye make up though. I dont know. I need to use it more to get a feel for it.

Nudetude Eyeshadow Palette - So far, I am in love with this eye shadow palette. Seriously. Ive been using it non-stop, and used it every day I was gone on the conference. That sparkly pink color, Stand-offish, is gorgeous. I pack a little of the Sleek, a matte color on the outer part of my eyelid, then blend Selfish in the V-shape of my eye. I use Sassy as a highlight underneath the brow and in the inner part of my eye. Seriously pretty. With a good base, these eye shadows last all day long with no problem. And I have oily eyelids so that is saying something.

Bahama Mama Bronzer - I wanted this to do a little bit of contouring but I havent used it yet. I havent had a day to get ready where if I screw up I cant easily wash my face and start over. Im excited to use it though because I have been dipping my toe into contouring and I hear its a good one.

Hot Mama Blush - I love this blush! It is so pretty, so natural. It has a pretty sparkle to it. I like it.

I actually received the last portion of my order on Tuesday. I got the TimeBalm Vanilla Oil-Absorbing Face Moisturizer. I havent used it yet so I dont know how it performs, but Im excited to give it a shot!

Do you like The Balm and do you have any of these products? Let me know what you think of them!

Also, Have you purchased anything from Hautelook yet? That site is going to be the death of me AND my marriage. It seems like every day Im wanting something off of there and Bryan just rolls his eyes. As men do.

Lauriana Cosmetics Launch!

Lauriana Cosmetics Launch!

Ive got really, really big news!

Ive started doing make-up for actual clients. I know. Its crazy. Im completely self taught, so my prices are rock bottom. But it feels SO GOOD to be doing make-up for people. I love it. I definitely plan on going to school after my CBO program ends because this is definitely something I want to do on the side and I want to be properly trained, but for now, Im amazed that people want me to be a apart of their special days!

Until then, I am glad I get to do what I love while making my clients happy and confident!

I even have an Instagram, website and I started another blog, just for my make-up journey. Im excited to see where this goes!

The weekend after Thanksgiving Denise was in town so we hung out. She asked me to do her make-up and I was happy to have a canvas on which to practice! We did a daytime look and then a night-time look. We both loved how it turned out.

I have the product list on my Instagram if you want to check out what I used. If you know of anyone that wants a little help with their makeup for a special event or anything, keep me in mind! Im affordable and getting better every day!

xo,

Megan
