Swimming

Swimming

As I had a day off from work, I was able to accompany Matthew to his swimming lesson this afternoon (with Louise and Daniel).  He has now been having lessons for a couple of months, and although he has made progress he is still struggling to lift his feet off the ground to swim.  They now use long, tubular floats which wrap under the arms rather than the rectangular hand held type I am familiar with from my childhood.  These are designed to enable the children to swim with both arms and legs while being supported, but Matthew looks a bit awkward with his and I wonder if he would find it easier with a traditional float.

Even so, Matthew did well today and managed to swim very briefly a couple of times before putting his legs down.  He was happy to get in the water and seemed to like having Daniel and I watching from the window of the cafeteria.

Matthew had his school trip to Folly Farm yesterday.  The children went on the bus, and Matthew sat with his friends in the back row on the return journey.  As it was a school trip, they werent able to use any of the chargeable rides, but did see the animals and go on the land train.  He came home with a toy giraffe head on a stick, but was upset because his friend Jimi trod on it by accident and broke the handle!
