A bin and a Rubiks cube
A bin and a Rubiks cube
Matthew has enjoyed Christmas this year, so the effort we put in seems to have been worth it. I thought hed be too excited to sleep on Christmas Eve, so let him stay up to watch the film Arthur Christmas with us. Half way through, however, he asked to go to bed because he was tired and we didnt hear a peep out of him until 6:30am when he opened his bedroom door. Id told him he could take his stocking into his room and open his presents after 6am if he wanted, but when Louise went in to him hed taken his presents in but hadnt touched them and they were still unwrapped. I think he must have misunderstood me when I told him not to come downstairs until 7am, and thought I meant unwrap any of his presents.
Matthew had a small netbook (laptop) from Father Christmas this year, as well as some action hero figures. He seemed more clued up about the laptop than Id expected and knew how to select and play a game hed already seen at school. He already knew what Firefox did and was straight onto some of his favourite TV show websites that had been pre-bookmarked for him. One thing hes struggled with is typing in his password - he holds down the keys for too long so they enter the letters more than once. Hopefully this kind of typing practice will stand him in good stead for using computers in school and beyond.
I was amused when Matthew opened one of his presents which turned out to be a bin (although with a Turtles picture). If Id had a bin for Christmas when I was young, Id probably have been really disappointed, but Matthew became really excited and shouted something like "Ive got my own bin! Isaac has a bin, and Ethan has a bin!".
Another present hes shown a surprising interest in is a Rubiks cube. He was excited to receive it, and said that Jimi in school has one, and has proceeded to spend quite a while trying to solve it (as have I, and Louise) without success.
At this evenings Boxing Day dinner with Gramps, Matthew was really keen on the crackers and made a decent stab of reading his joke out on his own (even though he didnt get it!): "How do you get down from an elephant? You dont, you get down from a duck." We had this read out several times throughout the meal. Matthew then wanted an extra cracker at the end.
