Home Depot With Dad

Home Depot With Dad

Wrekker was the hit of the Home Depot on Saturday as we went with Daddy to get some supplies to build shelves in our garage. Everyone couldnt get over how adorable he was. He was so happy and so big sitting in the cart all by himself. Dad didnt quite appreciate my photography shoot in the middle of his hard work though ha ha ha.

Jeepin With Dad

Jeepin With Dad

Kason and Wrekker are still having so much fun in that jeep. We love to take it out any chance we get. We are so grateful that we live in such a beautiful place where we have so many opportunities to enjoy this beautiful world. Kason and I feel sad that we don’t get to take it out more. We used to spend countless hours each night driving around in it, but now that we have Wrekker in bed at 6:30 or 7:00 because of his medicine, we feel like we don’t get to go on rides when the night air is more cool and enjoyable.

Mom and Dad

Mom and Dad

This week Lily is away on vacation visiting her Meme and Papaw.  More on her trip later....but in the meantime, weve been enjoying the snot out of Tyler-man.  Hes so.  Stinkin.  Cute.  Its been really nice to get to give him more attention than we normally do.  And frankly, theres been a lot less drama!  While I am missing Lily like crazy (especially when I heard her super sweet and super grown up voice on the phone tonight), I am relishing in the time we can dedicate to Tyler.

Heres a tickle and giggle fest these two were having the other night.

Tyler got a "shoot gun" for his birthday and rediscovered it tonight.  Its really difficult to pull the lever out and its really hard to pull the trigger but he loves it anyway.  Here is an alternative use for the ammunition....are these two nutty or what??

And now for the bad news.

Tyler started calling me "Mom" and Joel "Dad."  No more Mommy and Daddy.  I expect this happened because last weekend he heard Jackson calling Jenny "mom" most of the time.  But there were no "dads" present during our weekend in Evansville so I guess he figured out how to shorten Daddy to Dad all by himself.

Well, I for one, refuse to answer to Mom.  Not to a two year old.  If he wants my attention he will learn to call me Mommy.  Cause Im in charge here.  Right??  And what I say goes.  Right?

Please, oh please, oh please just let me be Mommy for a few more years, little man.  Ok?  Please?

Were struggling with separation anxiety here not the Labs Mom Dad!

Were struggling with separation anxiety here not the Labs Mom Dad!

Yesterday, we took Laurel and Hardy out to stay with Hardys breeder, Donna Reece at Ridge View Labradors (in Huntsburg, OH). We used to leave Laurel pretty regularly with our then-trainer and her family in Columbia Station (which is, unfortunately, about an hour in the wrong direction when we are traveling). And, of course, I left Hardy in Canada for several weekends and then three weeks last summer. Since then, however, I have been negligent in not leaving them for more than a couple hours at our house. And I say Ive been negligent because I know that separation anxiety is one of the biggest issues for owner-trained service dogs so its my job to make sure that my dogs are away from me enough so they dont suffer from it.
Well, as it turns out ... Laurel and Hardy had a wonderful time visiting with Donna and the 5 or 6 yellow Labs that were in the house with them! Brent and I really missed them while Maggie, the cat, thought it was kind of nice to be the only animal in our house! When we went to get them this afternoon, we were met at the door by all the dogs who were getting along beautifully! Well go back to scheduling overnight visits every couple months and well have a place to leave them when we go away without them. The best thing about it is that I wont worry the next time we leave them there!
On the way home, we stopped at my favorite place in the MetroParks to go for a quick walk. On our way back to the car, I took both Labs to see how well it would work to walk them together. Although Im sure it would make it easier to use a coupler, they did beautifully walking to my left  with Hardy on the outside. We saw lots of other dogs but all were on leash and well behaved. The only negative thing that happened was when a guy on a a very fast, very quiet bike came racing past us from behind without any warning and almost ran over Hardy. We saw him do the same thing to other people with and without dogs as well. I have to admit that I yelled at him. What he did was scary and discourteous, not to mention dangerous for the people and dogs he raced past but also for him! And, of course, just as all of us were recovering, he came racing back past us going the other direction! Unless hes not smart enough to realize how dangerous it was, we suspect he was trying to intimidate all of us so that well stop using the path. Im still going to take my guys there but I certainly hope I dont run into him again!
