School play
School play
Louise and I went to see the first performance of Matthews school play this afternoon (I took the day off work to go). As last time, the school had booked a local cinema for the performance, and so the children were able to perform on a proper stage. Matthew had to dress up as a king, along with his friends Isaac and Ethan. Others in years 1 and 2 were dressed up as angels and shepherds, with some smaller children dressed up as animals. Although Matthew dressed up, he didnt have to perform on his own, and the group sang several songs together, including with the other older children at the end.
Despite feeling nervous and telling us he thought he might cry, he did very well and sang throughout the performance without any problems. He seemed happy to go on stage and so he had a star afterwards for doing so well. The children have one further performance on Wednesday evening, which Matthews Grandma and Grandad will be attending. Its strange to think that next time, Daniel will probably also be in the performance even though he cant even talk properly yet, as they only do one every 2 years and Daniels due to start school in September 2016.
Recently, Matthew has taken to enjoying writing his own short stories at home. He attempts to write in both Welsh and English. He seems to have grasped the concept of phonetic writing well, but this does result in some quite amusing spelling, especially in English which he hasnt yet learned to write in school. Here is an example:
"I am a fere note boe and Im a god boe, byt I haf a letyl bryfy"
| Matthews writing |
Translation: "I am a very naughty boy and Im a good boy but I have a little brother"
Most of these errors are the result of Matthew learning Welsh in school I suspect - hence the overuse of "y" and the "f" in "very" which is a Welsh sound.
