Sad

Matthew has played up for us in the evenings and at the weekends recently, and Ive tried to talk with him to find out why.  Yesterday I had a chat with him after he was sent to his room for misbehaving, and it sounds like hes been feeling left out in school since Isaac and Ethan have moved up a year.  Matthew threw mud at Ethan during lunch break and refused to play properly when Ethan came over after school, and he also didnt want to play with Isaac when he came over after school earlier in the week.  It sounds like they may have been making fun of Matthew at school for still being in the "baby class", although it could be Matthew feeling left out and taking their comments the wrong way.

Louise asked Matthews teacher this morning how he had been getting on since his friends moved on, and apparently he has been doing really well - better than his teacher expected.  He came home today with a sticker for being good in school, but unfortunately this behaviour didnt continue at home and he was soon on the naughty step for smacking Daniel.

On the plus side, Matthew does seem to have made friends with a boy called Ryan in his year, so hopefully things will improve as time goes on.

It probably doesnt help that we havent been able to spend as much time with Matthew since Daniel came along.  The last month has been worse for Matthew too since Daniel started crawling, as Daniel now makes a bee-line for all of Matthews toys and so he cant play in the lounge any more when Daniel is around.  Matthew has spent more time in his room on his own during the last few evenings, which is probably natural as he gets older, but I do feel sorry for him because I think hes probably feeling left out at home and at school at the moment.
