June Brain Dump
June Brain Dump
I know Ive posted really sporadically the past month. Ive been really kind of busy. There is a reason that many of my profile descriptions say "inconsistent blogger". Cause thats the truth, yo. From all of my "how to make millions off your blog" web searches, Ive realized that inconsistent blogging is not congruent with any type of money making. Go figure. Guess Ill have to find another way to make that money. Oh well.
I just looked and I ssw that I blogged a whole two times in June! Sporadically is not the word I should have used.
Anyways, I wanted to updated you on where I am in life.
Most of you know that for most of the month of June, I was in Hawaii.
That is not a bad place to have a cup o joe in the morning, amiright? Man. It was beautiful.
The trip itself was kind of all over the place and I wasnt able to do a lot of the things that I wanted to do which is a bummer. However, we have some family that was stationed in Japan for the past few years and now they are in Hawaii. We plan to visit them as soon as possible because weve missed them like crazy! Hopefully Ill get to do some of the things we werent able to when we go back.
While in Hawaii, I paid for the first half of my schooling! I am so, immensely terrified and really excited. Mostly terrified though. Now comes the hard part - homework! I havent been in school in almost 10 years. Its really scary to step into that role again. I keep thinking, what if I fail? What if Im no where near smart enough to do this job? I have to keep reminding myself that the whole point of going through this program is to learn how to be a CBO. They dont expect me to know everything, yet. Duh.
I received my first homework assignment and that is to read the book by Donald T. Phillips, Lincoln on Leadership. I didnt even need to read the description to get excited! I also have to write a one page paper in the next few weeks and plan for CBO boot camp later this month. Whew. Things are about to get real!

On the mommyhood side, Shepherd is in such an amazing phase! He signs all done, more/again and please. He says up, hi, mama, dada, papa, nana (banana), kiss, hat, ball and blows kisses and waves to everyone he meets! He loves people, so much so that he reaches out and grabs them any time he can. Shepherd loves to dance, loves when I dance and/or sing, eats pretty well most of the time and is generally the cutest kid ever.
He has a bit of a cold right now and we were fighting a fever, which was not fun, but yesterday he was laughing, playing and generally just driving us nuts which was great!

We had taken a bit of a break from cloth diapering, mostly because Bryan is the SAHP and I thought it would be easier on him to keep that off his plate but we are back on the grind. On Sunday, Bryan installed a sprayer on the toilet to easily deal with the "number twos" and I taught him how to wash everything.
Im excited to get back into it because it is SUCH a money saver. We are working on setting up our office which will include putting together my sewing machine table and finally taking the actual machine out of the box... Ive had it for almost two years and the box is still sealed. Bad. I told Bryan the first project Im doing is some flannel wipes. I am just a strong believer that if you do cloth dipes, you have to do cloth wipes.

My sister Alison and her family came into town for the weekend and we had a blast together. I always keep my schedule really loose when shes here so that I can get as much time as possible with her. We ended up spending a grip of time together and I was stoked. We get a long so well, its great.

On Thursday, she invited us over to witness my nieces baptism; it was a very special moment. Bryan was in Bakersfield for work, so it was just me and Shepherd. When it was time to leave, I put Shepherd in his car seat and turned on the remote start. I was having trouble with the strap so I called my brother in law, Adam over. When he fixed it, he shut the door which happened to be locked. The keys also happened to be inside. As well as my purse and my cell phone.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
So my sisters and I start touching every door in hopes that we can get in. Alisons sister-in-laws husband tried to call his AAA to get roadside assistance and I asked my sister to call my step mom to see about my insurances roadside assistance. Then, I asked for Alisons father in law to get something heavy to break the window. Alisons sister-in-law called a friend of theirs who is a firefighter. About 5 minutes before he got there to open the car, the remote start shut off. The clock was now ticking as to how long Shepherd could be in there. It was after eight oclock, so luckily it was cooler in the day, but it was still much too hot for him to be in there long.
The firefighter, Logan got there and tried to use a wedge to unlock the doors, once on the driver side and once on the passenger side, but because of the remote start and the anti-theft system, the buttons wouldnt unlock the doors from the inside. Logan ended up breaking the window (which I did not care about in the least, obviously) and I got Shepherd out of the car.
This is the condensed, less emotional, less f-bomby version of events, but everything ended well. Shepherd is fine. I am fine, although I have some more gray hair, for sure.
My point in relaying my story is not only to remind myself of my own stupidity, but to acknowledge that parents make mistake. This is the second time that I and the remote start function on my car worked together to lock my son in the car. It is my fault, through and through. I got lucky both times that I was surrounded my family to help me. But if I had been somewhere alone, I would have had to run to the nearest place to call the police to get my son out of the car. It could have taken a very, very long time.

Be careful. Be aware. If you dont have pockets, throw your keys into your bra instead of setting them down. Hell, drop the on the floor. Be vigilant. Most importantly, dont be like me. Have a key hidden somewhere on your car. Who cares if your car gets stolen. That is what insurance is for. For me, its more important for me to be able to get into my car than to keep others out of my car. Also, give a key to a neighbor or friend, someone reliable that can get to you fast more often than not.
If youve locked a child in the car, you know how it feels. You are right there, unable to get in. Its literally the worst thing, being so close and not able to do anything about it. Youre not a bad parent. It happens to a lot of people. Just do better the next time. Get your kid out as fast as possible by any means necessary.

In Hawaii, I took off my Fitbit. I was on vacation and didnt want to worry about ruining it in the ocean. As I type, its charging and Ill be back on my Fitbit + Jillian Michaels game as of tomorrow. My new goal is to lose 15 pounds by August 30! That means lots of movement, structured meals and thoughtful snacking.

I went really blonde before Hawaii and I love it! My hair is definitely damaged though so Ive been trying to take it really easy this summer. Deep hair conditioning masks, letting it air dry as often as possible, leaving it straight instead of curling it. Bleached hair is delicate hair so youve gotta be really diligent about taking care of it, but overall, I love it.
Thats all folks! Its good to be back. I hope you are having an amazing summer and as always, thanks for sticking around.

Phone Dump Sunday
Phone Dump Sunday
I have been slacking in the blog posting department, had a busy week! Hudson has still not made his arrival (Ive tried everything) so if he doesnt come this week he will be here
sometime next week for sure, maybe my Valentines Present?? Timmy was home for the weekend and has already had to leave out again. Tonight we are going to my cousin Laceys for a little Superbowl get together and over to my parents. I havent taken alot of pictures with my camera lately but always snap pictures with my phone, so here is a phone dump of what we have been up to this last week and weekend (pictures are all out of order).
Resting on the couch with my two babies! Cant wait for Hudson to be on my chest and Brody on my side!!

Playing games at Mr. Gattis! Brody loves going to Mr. Gattis, we usually go about once a date. It is a special little treat for us!

Brody Luke in his new hat and jersey his daddy brought him home !

My little handy man while Daddy is away!

My Boys!!

He was exhausted! This is how he fell asleep at my parents the other evening!

Working out..

He loves his little "Hudson" baby.....He will randomly get it and carry it around and take care of it.

It is a thing with Brody and Timmy that if he is good throughout the week once Daddy gets home for the weekend he will bring Brody a special little present... this weekend it was a Alabama hat and Jersey!

Every night at bedtime we do our nightly routine and then Brody plays a few games or watches a cartoon on my Ipad, he often falls asleep with it. Look how big he looks in his footed pajamas!!! Love it.

Brody was so excited to see that "Sunshine" the cat came back for a visit. He kept saying,
"Sunshine I was so worried about you."

April Brain Dump
April Brain Dump

I love this picture from Easter!

Im annoyed that people keep asking me about having more babies and laugh when I say I have a plan. My sister likes to give me a hard time about trying to "play God" by dictating when Ill get pregnant again. It assaults me left and right, from women who were due when I was and now theyre already pregnant with their second kid, people saying Shepherd needs a sibling. You know the drill. It is nothing new. Usually I dont care. All the time I hear women say the typical things women say, about strangers touching their bellies or touching their babies or whatever. None of that bothered me. This does though. I guess because we, meaning Bryan and I, are so, so incredibly far away from having our second baby. I honestly couldnt feel farther away from the idea. We have so much to get in order, so much on the horizon that it wouldnt be fair to us, to Shepherd and even to the baby to try to wrestle that in there.
Mostly, with each question and comment about the next baby, I feel it. The disappointment in my last pregnancy, the weight of failed breastfeeding. The huge crap pile that was my life in 2012 and 2013. I cant go back there. I cant revisit that. I cant have pre-eclampsia again and the longer I wait, the healthier I get, the better I learn to deal with stress and anxiety, the better of a chance I have at carrying the baby to full term. To experience birth and motherhood the way it should be. But we arent ready yet, Im not ready yet. I cant do it and I dont like the comments. I dont like the feels that come along with them.

We went to a local Mexican restaurant on Shepherds birthday and he loved playing in the fountain!
Im in the beginning stages of applying for a program that will enrich my knowledge of school business and help to push my career forward. For the past few years Ive been in a holding pattern because I always thought this was a bridge job. I would use this job to bridge the gap until I became a stay at home mom. Since that isnt happening, I feel like I owe it to myself to dive deeper in my career so that I can move up as much as possible.
I definitely cannot say that my brain and heart have completely surrendered the idea of being a SAHM. Its been hard to adjust my thinking to this is what Im doing for the long haul. With this program, there is no going back. Personally, Im devastated. Giving up a dream is hard. Especially when that dream is so rooted to the core of you. At the same time, Im not just giving up a deal. Im pursuing a new one which is really scary. Hustling to meet goals and realize your dreams is not easy. Its not supposed to be or the payoff wouldnt be as sweet. Im starting to get into deeper waters and I feel so out of my element. Im ready for the challenge though. I think its right.

I am obsessed with the app Perfect365. I told my friend Denise about it and we constantly send each other selfies. I definitely think I should die my hair blue. Also.... I need lavender contacts STAT. How cool are they?!

Bryan is so, so close to finishing his album. I can almost feel the energy in the air. The next few months are going to be a whirlwind and I could not explain why, but I feel like this moment in our lives is huge. Its going to propel us somewhere. I dont know where, I dont have any idea if itll be a good place or bad one, but this step is going to take us somewhere unfamiliar. Its exciting, exhilarating and terrifying at once. Ive convinced Bryan do to a little side project with it and Im super stoked that he is on board. More on that soon!

Random Pictures Brain Dump
Random Pictures Brain Dump
I keep having migraines. February I had about five legit migraines and probably six or seven migraine headaches. Its been an onslaught of pain and time wasted sleeping in a dark room. I have always hated this but it makes it worse when it takes away precious time from Shepherd. Im so frustrated and stressed out about it that Im starting to reconsider my position on taking a daily migraine medication. There are a ton of side effects with those and I really dont like taking preventative medicine, but when they get regular like this Im not sure what else I can do. My quality of life is definitely affected.
Bryan is obviously against it and wants us to really get things organized because he thinks itll help with my stress level. So we are going to start there and see what happens.

My no-make up make-up look along with crazy hair.
Im going to LA this weekend to hang out with Denise and see where she lives and stuff. Im so excited! We have plans to see the Veronica Mars movie on Friday night in Santa Monica and we are going to go to fancy coffee shops and scour thrift store for Hawaii outfits. This will be my first time leaving Shepherd overnight and Im really apprehensive about it. LIKE REALLY. I have a conference in Sacramento the beginning of April so I figured, its going to happen sooner or later. At least if I do it now I wont have to be stressing out during a work function.

Shepherds First Time on a Swing. He was not impressed.
Im chugging along on the weight loss front, slowly losing weight. The other day my coworker and friend (who is the food supervisor) told me that Im not eating enough grains and protein and that could be why Im having a ton of headaches. She reminded me that veggies are good for us but they dont stay with us. Our bodies easily digest them. I need to get better at having balanced meals and not just salads. I just want to shed this weight faster than I did the last time! I have things I need to look good for coming up fast.

This is a nail wrap I got from the dollar store. How cute is that?!
Do you ever try new beauty products or tips and it just doesnt work? Ive had a few of those lately and its mildly discouraging. Ive been keeping up with my own manicures as best I can and they just dont turn out the same. Ill do the base coat, wait a few minutes, then I do thin coats of nail polish, but it seems like it takes forever to cover the nail and then it takes forever to dry. Then I wait a long time to do nail art but it always comes out funky and no matter how long I wait to dry it or how good to a topcoat I do it freaking messes UP! I follow the directions! Ive done research. Why is this so dang difficult? I feel like I need to break it up. Day one: base coat and full nail. Day two: nail art/bling and top coat. Done! Seems a little excessive but it might be worth it to not rage when you notice your fresh mani just dented.
Ive been trying to put a little more effort into my hair because I was definitely relying on a pony to get me through most days. I tried this hairstyle I saw on pinterest and it turned out okay. I have some texture in my hair that worked for me and against me. Oh well.
That same day I got home and got my new fedora hat! I bought it off of the app Vinted! I love it. I signed up and a few days later got a credit for up to $15 to buy something. All I had to do was pay shipping. I almost didnt use the credit but then I remember I wanted to get a hat for Hawaii and why not save a little. I stumbled across this white and black fedora and I knew I needed it in my life. Itll be perfect for the beach and shopping days. Im definitely going to utilize that app to sell some things! (This is not sponsored in any way, obviously. My blog is much too small for anything like that!)
I ended up with a migraine Monday night so I decided to curl my hair and rock a red lip yesterday, give myself a little boost. I love that red lipstick! Its NYC 309 Sheer Red. I adore it. I feel like I look so funny in the picture, I snapped it quickly to show Denise and now I realize why, I parted my hair on the opposite side that usual! Ive been doing that do give a little more bounce to my second day hair. I bought a smaller curling iron (a one inch) and have been using a different technique with it to give me different curls. Here is the same look after the red lip has faded. Natural is nice, but that red lip really gives the look a little somethin somethin extra, dont ya think?
