Another parents evening
Louise and I went to another parents evening today - the second and final one during Matthews time in year 1. Matthews teacher gave some very positive feedback and said that his work is very good; hes one of the top in his class at reading and maths, and hes continuing to grow in confidence and happy to answer questions. When he first came in to year 1, he didnt like getting questions wrong and his teacher said that she could see him become upset and start to cry, but she told him that it didnt matter and he now seems happier to participate.
We were able to look at some of his work, and it was nice to see that hed written a story about the time Id taken him and Daniel to the Wales on Wheels exhibition - although one of his highlights in the story was how hed been to the cafe and eaten sandwiches and crisps!
Matthew has now started doing work with time, and we saw that hed been asked to identify the time on different clocks. Hed got the time right when the clock was on the hour, but wasnt yet sure about half-past, quarter-past or quarter-to (although in year 1 they are only supposed to learn half-past and on the hour - Matthews teacher has been introducing some year 2 work so they recognise it when they move up in September).
