Home fireworks
Home fireworks
For the first time this year I tried a home fireworks display rather than going to the local organised display, because Daniel is still too young to go, which meant that one of us would have had to stay home to look after him. As I also had to go on a train journey for work today, I wasnt sure I would be back in time to take Matthew to an organised event.
For roughly the same price as a entry to an organised display I picked up a selection box of 14 fireworks, some sparklers and one large combination firework from Tesco. Having never lit any fireworks before, I wanted to start small, which proved to be a good move. I was expecting to have problems burying them in the ground to the correct depth and facing the right direction, which didnt prove to be a problem. What I hadnt expected was having trouble lighting the fireworks - I went through nearly two boxes of matches as I found that they didnt take very well in the breeze.
Eventually I managed to get them lit, and Matthew told me afterwards he had enjoyed the display even though he ran inside when the combination firework went off because he was scared. He seemed to enjoy watching the rest from the window. He also tried holding a sparkler, but was too scared and handed it back to Louise. When asked if he would prefer attending an organised display in town or having a home display again next year he chose the home display, so I must have done something right!
The fireworks didnt wake Daniel up, and we were also lucky that it stayed dry for the evening as it has been very wet here lately.
