Halloween 2014

Halloween 2014

Last year, my family and I dressed up as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis. This year, we decided to do something much more simple.

Bryans sister, Justus, had an Elmo costume from when she was three, so we borrowed that and Bryan and I got Bert and Ernie shirts!

Of course, I used Halloween as an excuse to have a little fun with my make-up! I took this picture to send to Denise to show off my blending skills. :)

Anyways, back to what really matters! Shepherd was an ADORABLE Elmo, and we made sure to hit up all the grandparents homes before going to Papa Ricks Halloween party, which was held at Lees house. Bryan took most of the pictures but here is a super cute one I managed to snap of my Dad and Delia with little Elmo.

And here are some pictures of the get together Rick hosted:

We had a great (and effortless) Halloween which is my favorite type of holiday! What did you dress up as for Halloween?

Testimonial – 1 13 2014

Testimonial – 1 13 2014

Dr Rothbard,
I would like to personally thank you for your efforts and for going out of your way for me and a lot of your patients. I am in the healthcare field myself and I do know that it’s very rare to find a healthcare professional who goes out of their way for a patient. I walked into your office last week Friday after reading great reviews about you and your staff on Yelp and I briefly spoke to Katie and a gentleman at the front desk. They were both very helpful and took the time to listen to me and talk to me about my current issue with my PPO insurance. Katie was awesome and very attentive! After talking to them about my condition and insurance problems, they took down my number and told me that I should expect a call back on Monday. Little did I know that YOU will be calling me and leaving me a personal message on my cel phone about where to go to get RGP lenses fitted. Even though you knew that you were not going to be able to provide me with services, you still went out of your way to call me and tell me who to go to. I want to use this opportunity to thank you. As a health care provider in the inland empire, I am constantly encountering patients who are looking for the “best” doctors. Just so you know, you have topped my list of “best” optometrists in the IE due to your human touch and personable approach. I will be referring everyone that’s looking for an optometrist to you. Also, please look out for my review on Yelp.Thank you and I’ll be sure to tell my referrals to let you know that “Joe sent you” when they come your way.
Best regards,
Joe

Fall Festival 2014

Fall Festival 2014

Welp, the Fonner sisters converged on Evansville this weekend for the annual West Side Nut Club Fall Festival.  Otherwise known as the "Eat Yourself Stupid Festival" or also sometimes referred to as the "Can you BELIEVE that s/he is wearing THAT Festival?!"

It would be way, way, way too embarrassing to recap everything I ate.  So I wont go there.  But rest assured the only part of my "diet" that made it to Franklin street was my portion control.  As in, we shared everything we got so my portions of each thing I had were in check.  Unfortunately, I did not then take it one step further and limit the number of things we got.

Saturday morning we caught the Pet Parade.  As per usual, the parade is advertised to begin at 9am.... but it doesnt start until 10.  At least this year, weve finally figured that out and didnt get there quite as early as we have in years past.  But there was still enough time before the parade for 6 out of 6 kids to have a meltdown.  At one point, Tyler is dragging me down Franklin Street and Lily is following behind crying at the top of her lungs.  It was awesome and not at all embarrassing.

"Hey kids, lets get a picture of you with Grams!"  Bahahahaahhahahahahahaha.  Sometimes I have THE BEST ideas EVER.

I did manage to get a decent shot of me and the kiddos before the meltdowns intensified too much.

Then the parade finally started and then you remember why its worth the meltdowns and crying and fighting.  "MOMMY!  Mommy, look!  Look, Mommy, look!  LOOK!!"  Their crazy excitement over seeing some dogs wearing costumes is totally contagious and I find myself hollering, "LOOK, Tyler, LOOK!  A PIRATE DOG!!  Lily, look, Lily, LOOK!  An Elsa with her OLAF BUNNY RABBIT!!"

All the yummy goodness at the Fall Festival and I wasnt successful at getting the kids to try much of anything.  Lily got cotton candy (which Tyler enjoyed too) and that was it for her.  The only other thing I got Tyler to try was the Monster Ear.  I told him it was like a cinnamon roll with syrup on it.  He was all over that.

That concludes Fall Festival 2014.  Good thing too cause my pants are cutting off the circulation to my brain.

Besides eating until we busted our guts, Mom graciously offered to watch ALL SIX GRANDBABIES (plus Jason) by herself on TWO separate occasions so Jenny, Katie and I could shop til we dropped.  I dont think Ive ever spent that much money in one day shopping in my life.  Having your sisters, who have very honest opinions, coupled with the freedom and options that come with weight loss was a very bad combination for my wallet....and my closet.... It was awesome.  And now Im cut off.

The kiddos played pretty well together though 6 kids and 4 adults in one room is enough to test anyones sanity.  We are slowly working on getting the older kids more comfortable with playing in the basement (by themselves) in order to preserve whats left of our wits.  At one point, they were playing hide and seek.  Jackson was counting while Lily, Tyler and Ayden "hid."  Check out Lily and Tylers hiding spot.  Cause if I cant see you, you cant see me, right?

Hunting for Jackson..... he is just GONE.

Oh wait!  There he is!

Kenzie may not have gotten in on the hide and seek action but she definitely did get her turn on the big wheels.

Heres just a few more random shots of the babes.....

Afluria Preservative Free 2014 2015

Afluria Preservative Free 2014 2015

What Is Afluria Preservative-Free 2014-2015?

Influenza virus (commonly known as "the flu") is a serious disease caused by a virus. Influenza virus can spread from one person to another through small droplets of saliva that are expelled into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can also be passed through contact with objects the infected person has touched, such as a door handle or other surfaces.
Influenza virus vaccine is used to prevent infection caused by influenza virus. The vaccine is redeveloped each year to contain specific strains of inactivated (killed) flu virus that are recommended by public health officials for that year.
The injectable influenza virus vaccine (flu shot) is a "killed virus" vaccine. Influenza virus vaccine is also available in a nasal spray form, which is a "live virus" vaccine.
Influenza virus vaccine works by exposing you to a small dose of the virus, which helps your body to develop immunity to the disease. Influenza virus vaccine will not treat an active infection that has already developed in the body.
Influenza virus vaccine is for use in adults and children who are at least 6 months old.
Becoming infected with influenza is much more dangerous to your health than receiving this vaccine. Influenza causes thousands of deaths each year, and hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations. However, like any medicine, this vaccine can cause side effects but the risk of serious side effects is extremely low.
Like any vaccine, influenza virus vaccine may not provide protection from disease in every person. This vaccine will not prevent illness caused by avian flu ("bird flu").
The injectable influenza virus vaccine (flu shot) is a "killed virus" vaccine. Influenza virus vaccine is also available in a nasal spray form, which is a "live virus" vaccine. This medication guide addresses only the injectable form of this vaccine.
Becoming infected with influenza is much more dangerous to your health than receiving this vaccine. However, like any medicine, this vaccine can cause side effects but the risk of serious side effects is extremely low.
You may not be able to receive this vaccine if you are allergic to eggs, or if you have:
  • a history of severe allergic reaction to a flu vaccine; or
  • a history of Guillian-Barre syndrome (within 6 weeks after receiving a flu vaccine).
To make sure influenza virus injectable vaccine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
  • a bleeding or blood clotting disorder such as hemophilia or easy bruising;
  • a neurologic disorder or disease affecting the brain (or if this was a reaction to a previous vaccine);
  • a history of seizures;
  • a weak immune system caused by disease, bone marrow transplant, or by using certain medicines or receiving cancer treatments; or
  • if you are allergic to latex rubber.
You can still receive a vaccine if you have a minor cold. In the case of a more severe illness with a fever or any type of infection, wait until you get better before receiving this vaccine.
Vaccines may be harmful to an unborn baby and generally should not be given to a pregnant woman. However, not vaccinating the mother could be more harmful to the baby if the mother becomes infected with a disease that this vaccine could prevent. Your doctor will decide whether you should receive this vaccine, especially if you have a high risk of infection with influenza.
It is not known whether influenza virus vaccine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not receive this vaccine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
This vaccine should not be given to a child younger than 6 months old.

Afluria Preservative-Free 2014-2015 Side Effects

Influenza virus injectable (killed virus) vaccine will not cause you to become ill with the flu virus that it contains. However, you may have flu-like symptoms at any time during flu season that may be caused by other strains of influenza virus.
You should not receive a booster vaccine if you had a life-threatening allergic reaction after the first shot.
Keep track of any and all side effects you have after receiving this vaccine. If you ever need to receive influenza virus vaccine in the future, you will need to tell your doctor if the previous shot caused any side effects.
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
  • severe weakness or unusual feeling in your arms and legs (may occur 2 to 4 weeks after you receive the vaccine);
  • high fever;
  • seizure (convulsions); or
  • unusual bleeding.
Common side effects may include:
  • low fever, chills;
  • mild fussiness or crying;
  • redness, bruising, pain, swelling, or a lump where the vaccine was injected;
  • headache, tired feeling; or
  • joint or muscle pain.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report vaccine side effects to the US Department of Health and Human Services at 1-800-822-7967.

Afluria Preservative-Free 2014-2015 Interactions

Follow your doctors instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.
Before receiving this vaccine, tell your doctor if you are using:
  • phenytoin;
  • theophylline; or
  • a blood thinner such as warfarin, Coumadin.
Also tell the doctor if you have recently received drugs or treatments that can weaken the immune system, including:
  • an oral, nasal, inhaled, or injectable steroid medicine;
  • medications to treat psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, or other autoimmune disorders--azathioprine, etanercept, leflunomide, and others; or
  • medicines to treat or prevent organ transplant rejection--basiliximab, cyclosporine, muromonab-CD3, mycophenolate mofetil, sirolimus, tacrolimus.
If you are using any of these medications, you may not be able to receive the vaccine, or may need to wait until the other treatments are finished.
This list is not complete. Other drugs may affect influenza virus injectable vaccine, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Not all possible interactions are listed in this medication guide.

Afluria Preservative-Free 2014-2015 Dosage

Some brands of this vaccine are made for use in adults and not in children. Your childs doctor can recommend the best influenza virus vaccine for your child.
This vaccine is given as an injection (shot) into a muscle. You will receive this injection in a doctors office or other clinic setting.
You should receive a flu vaccine every year. Your immunity will gradually decrease over the 12 months after you receive the influenza virus vaccine. Children receiving this vaccine may need a booster shot one month after receiving the first vaccine.
The influenza virus vaccine is usually given in October or November. Some people may need to have their vaccines earlier or later. Follow your doctors instructions.
Your doctor may recommend treating fever and pain with an aspirin-free pain reliever such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, and others) when the shot is given and for the next 24 hours. Follow the label directions or your doctors instructions about how much of this medicine to give your child.
It is especially important to prevent fever from occurring in a child who has a seizure disorder such as epilepsy.
An overdose of this vaccine is unlikely to occur.
Since flu shots are usually given only one time per year, you will most likely not be on a dosing schedule. Call your doctor if you forget to receive your yearly flu shot in October or November.
If your child misses a booster dose of this vaccine, call your doctor for instructions.

February 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag Review Value

February 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag Review Value

Howdy, yall! I received my first Ipsy glam bag in the mail and thought Id just pop in a picture for those of you who might wonder what it is all about.

Ipsy was created and co-founded by Michelle Phan (who recently launched em Cosmetics) and is a subsciption service that costs $10 (+ tax) per month. You receive at least five deluxe samples from different cosmetic and skincare brands in a cute little make-up bag!

Ive been wanting to sign up for a long time and I finally pulled the trigger last month. I was so excited when I got it in the mail! It came about a week and a half ago so Im a little late to the party.

I received the following items:

Plump Pout Mini by pop Cosmetics (4 oz.) in Fuchsia Freesia ($16~ value)
Zoya Nail Polish in Dot ($9~ value)
tini Beauty Eye Shadow + Base in Violet ($18~)
skyn Fresh Start Mask with Ice Age Mud [one packet] ($6.50~ value)
J. Cat Beauty False Eyelashes in EL 05 ($4~ value)

Total value: $53.50

Quick Review:

Plump Pout Mini by pop Cosmetics (4 oz.) in Fuchsia Freesia  - I like the color and wear time, hate the smell. Seriously bugs!

Zoya Nail Polish in Dot - The color is really pretty but I found it super difficult to apply. It was uneven and streaky. Maybe my bottle just needs a little bit of nail polish thinner? It dried well but it took a while, probably because of the multiple coats! Im going to thin it just a tad to see if that helps. I was kind of underwhelmed.

tini Beauty Eye Shadow + Base in Violet - I swatched it on my hand and it was a gorgeous color, but it didnt seem tacky enough to be a real base. I think it would be great for those no make-up days all over the lid.

skyn Fresh Start Mask with Ice Age Mud [one packet] - This is a two step mask. First you spread the mud and then you spread the gel to activate it. It felt really good going on, did burn/tingle a little bit and my skin was pretty red after. It said to finish with a toner so I used witch hazel and my skin felt really dry, like unable to move dry, so I patted some moisturizer on my face. My skin felt really smooth after but I didnt feel like it was "less dull".

J. Cat Beauty False Eyelashes in EL 05 - These look crazy intense and I have super small eyes. I think they are really gorgeous though and the price seems really good!

Overall, Im really stoked with the range of products I received, their price points and the overall value of the bag. I know that every month wont be a hit but I think Ipsy is a solid choice for a subscription service!

Have you signed up for a subscription service or do you have Ipsy? What are your thoughts?

PS. If youd like to sign up, use my link and I get referral points! Id appreciate it. :)

CASBO Conference 2014 Sacramento CA

CASBO Conference 2014 Sacramento CA

When you decide that you want to write, in any platform, you have to figure out what your boundaries are when writing. Usually, I dont write about my job, but considering the fact that there are a few things coming up, I figured I would lightly touch on a few things that have been going on lately.

In September, the boss who hired me moved on to another job and in November, a new boss was hired. She is the Chief Business Official at a neighboring district and she is now working for both districts. She used to work at our school and did my job under my old boss for quite sometime before moving up into her new position, and Ive known her as the (now former) boss of my best friend and fellow blogger, Denise.

Anyways, I was stoked, because I think she is great and it has worked out so well. She is teaching me a lot and has encouraged me to go back to school, which is what is on the horizon.

Many of you know that my dream was to be a stay at home mom. To be able to raise my babies and invest in their lives. Unfortunately, life doesnt always work out the way we hope and Ive decided that it is time to invest in my career. Both feet in.

In order to do that, I need to go back to school. I am now going through the motions to enroll and complete a CBO training course so that I can further my career in school business. It is an exciting and scary time for me. I havent done homework in a very long time. However, Im ready to do this. If everything works out, I will start in July.

Wednesday, before I left for the conference, I made sure to give my boy lots of kisses and snuggles!

Apart from the first year I was hired and last year, since I was pregnant, Ive gone to the California School Business Officials (CASBO) Conference each year it was held. It is the largest gathering in of school business people in the state and it is an intense conference! Every minute is accounted for at the conference and we are non-stop from Wednesday to Saturday.

This year was great. Im not going to go into the actual information I learned, although plenty, because its layered and would probably bore you to tears. Suffice it to say I learned a lot from it and I met a lot of great people!

I just thought Id share some of the fun parts of the conference.

Overnight curls and make-up ready for the conference!
(Overnight curls -  Dry hair (or second day), curl hair, pin curls until completely cool. Unravel and spray with hairspray. Let dry completely. Brush curls gently and wrap in a loose bun on your head. Wake up, touch up a few curls with curling iron and boom! So easy.)

My outfit for Thursday. So many women get super fancy with heels and they are dying mid-day. There is a LOT of walking. My thoughts on conference style: Dress cute-casual with extra comfy shoes and make-up that makes you feel confident. Usually, the first day everyone is really fancy, the next they are in nice jeans and comfortable shoes and the last day they wear maxi skirts and dresses with flip flops. Its so funny. Never wear heels when at a conference! Dress professionally but comfortably. There is a ton of running around and you never know how many sessions youll go to where there is standing room only. No bueno.

We had a Payroll/HR Luncheon and the speaker was Molly McGee Hewitt, who is the Director of CASBO. I was so excited to find out she was the keynote, mainly because I am a huge fan. She is one of those women that you meet and you just know shes a good, wholesome person. She has a great story and Ive never heard one person say anything negative about her. I would love to be mentored by her someday. (And I totally fangirled when I met her.) She was a delight!

On Thursday night, there is a Gala that a lot of people attend. Basically its food and games and dancing. There was a guy there from an entertainment company, I had the card, I need to dig it out of all my conference things. Anyways, he was amazing. I have never seen balloon animals so intricately done before. He made me an elephant (cause, duh), Mario, a ladybug, a leopard and Hello Kitty!

They had to tear me away from this spin-the-wheel game. I kept hitting big on the number 1, that stack of yellow chips is mine. :)

Waiting for our balloon animals/figures!

#elephantsforlyfe

The yellow balloon animal was a Leopard, it sat on her shoulders and hugged her head! So cute.

A blurry picture of the entertainer. He was really kind.

On Friday night, the businesses that help support CASBO and the CASBO Conference hold hospitality suites, where you can cruise through, network, eat food and drink. Some have music and some have activities. They are really fun!

This is our group, all from neighboring cities in the same county, only one from a neighboring county. A great group of girls!

Here we are with a new friend. He is from TASBO (Texas Association of School Business Officials). He was really kind!

My boss and I. When there is a major change at work, it can always be daunting because you dont know if youll...mesh. We definitely mesh. She has been so encouraging to me about my career. Im so thankful for her!

On the top floor of the Hyatt, one of the larger companies held their hospitality suite. You could see the capitol from both the balconies!

Yes, I had a little bit of wine. Its rare but it DOES happen! Im a Cabernet Sauvignon kind of gal. :)

The Capitol Building in Sacramento.

Then came my favorite part of the evening - Casino night! Obviously, no real money exchanged hands because of laws here in California. Each person got a ticket for 500 chips, which you could exchange for one raffle ticket. I have played Texas Hold Em every casino night that Ive attended the conference. I always sit next to the same person, who has been CASBO President. He is really neat and he teaches me as we play. It is SO fun!

I sent pictures to Bryan and my father-in-law Rick throughout the night, because #winning.

The pile just keeps on growing! :)

I ended up winning over 5500 chips, so I got a bunch of tickets!

Everyone at our table was super impressed with my card shark skills. I had a moment there that I was losing because I was getting the worst cards. Lots of low numbers, off suit. It was annoying. Finally I stopped chasing any hands and soon, the cards started to show up for me. I love playing Texas Hold Em and my colleagues couldnt believe how good I was at it! I assured them that I would never play the same way with my own money because I work too hard for it. But, Ive been known to make my father-in-law and Bryan play with change.

These nights were late and it made getting up at 5:45 in the morning to get ready for the long day of sessions hard, but it was worth it. I packed in and soaked up as much information and knowledge as I could and had a lot of fun in between.

Cant wait for next year!
